TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University athletics department today announced changes to the gameday experience for the 2022-23 season.
Beer sales will be added to the concession stands for football and men's lacrosse games at Johnny Unitas® Stadium as well as the ticketed events held inside SECU Arena: men's and women's basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. The new option for attendees 21-and-over brings Towson's events in line with other professional and Division I collegiate sporting events in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
All concession stands will operate in a cashless point of sale format to increase speed of service.
For football games, beer sales begin from the time the gates open 90 minutes before kickoff until the end of the third quarter. A limit of two (2) alcoholic beverages may be purchased at a time. An individual must be 21 years of age to buy alcoholic beverages and proof of age is required. Everyone, regardless of age, must present a valid I.D for each purchase. Alcohol may not be dispensed to any individual who does not present proper ID upon request. Alcohol may not be brought into or taken out of the venue. Fans attempting to smuggle alcohol into Unitas Stadium will be subject to removal from the facility, loss of ticket privileges and/or arrest.
Football gameday will also include a hospitality area behind the east end zone, sponsored by C&R Pub. The tent opens 90 minutes prior to kickoff and available to all fans free of charge and will be accessible from both the North and South stands while offering food and drink specials as well as an up-close view of on-field action.
Pre-sold and reserved parking passes for groups are now available in Lot 7, near SECU Arena. Single game permits for groups are $20. Fans will be able to buy one parking pass per four tickets purchased, while supplies last. The remaining parking will be sold to single game purchasers. "We are thrilled to be adding some new experiences to our gameday atmosphere this fall," Towson Director of Athletics
Steve Eigenbrot said. "These improvements enhance our ability to continue growing events we host in a Greater Baltimore region full of so many great entertainment options. New hospitality options, expanding beer sales, new options to reserve parking – they're important parts of the fan experience and should pave a path for Towson Athletics to integrate more with our surrounding communities and drive support for our student-athletes. There's a lot of great things happening here at TU; we need to make sure our athletics events are drawing folks in so we can show them how amazing our campus and community truly are."
The 2022 home football schedule features five home games, beginning with the Battle for Greater Baltimore versus Morgan State on Sept. 10 (7 p.m.). The Tigers also face New Hampshire (Sept. 24, 4 p.m.), William & Mary (Oct. 22, 4 p.m.), Villanova (Nov. 5, 2 p.m.) and Hampton (Nov. 19, 1 p.m.).
The season kicks off Sept. 3 at Bucknell under 13
th year head coach
Rob Ambrose.
"After watching our guys practice and talking to Coach Ambrose, I am really excited," added Eigenbrot. "There are a lot of new faces on the team. Rob has our kids competing and every position is a battle. I might be new to Towson, but with many new faces on the roster, really no one knows what we are going to see Sept. 3, so it will be exciting for all of us. We are going to make the experience around the game a little different this fall. Rob and his team are going to do their part to make sure everyone has an enjoyable time watching the Tigers on the field."
