BOONE, N.C. – The Towson University field hockey team dropped its 2022 season opener to Appalachian State, 4-1, at Adcock Field Friday evening. Senior captain
Georgia Beachley scored the 15
th goal of her career in the third quarter for the Tigers tally.
The game was delayed one hour because of lightning in the area.

How it Happened:
- App State took a 1-0 lead on a goal just over five minutes into the game then scored twice in a seven-minute time frame during the second quarter to take a 3-0 halftime lead.
- Towson took advantage of its first penalty corner of the game with 21 seconds remaining in the third period. Freshman Hedwig Veldhuizen inserted the ball. Beachley converted to make it 3-1 with 15 minutes to play.
- The Tigers had an opportunity to make it a one goal game with 1:12 left in the game, but the team failed to get a shot off inside the circle.
- The Mountaineers added an insurance goal with 19 seconds remaining for the final score.
Inside the Numbers:
- Head coach E.A. Jackson had a pair of first-year students from the Netherlands in the starting lineup as Hedwig Veldhuizen (defensive midfield) and Tessa Scheenstra (goalkeeper) joined six seniors, two juniors and a sophomore.
Next Game:
Towson wraps up its weekend in North Carolina with a Sunday afternoon game at Davidson at 1 p.m. Last season, the Tigers defeated the Wildcats 4-3 in the season finale.
