CATONSVILLE, Md. – The Towson University women's soccer team finished non-conference play with a 2-0 win against UMBC on Thursday night. The win moves the win streak to six and is the most non-conference wins in program history.
Towson (7-1-1) got an early first half goal from
Jasmine Hamid and never looked back.
Phoebe Canoles added an insurance goal in the 75
th minute off a penalty kick.
The Tigers improve their win streak to six games and remain unbeaten in the last seven with six shutouts.

Head Coach Katherine Vettori: "It was a fight tonight and it was not easy, but I am happy about the shutout and it's exciting to be 7-1-1. Our defense is communicating well and Riley (Melendez) is really organizing them well."

How It Happened:
- Jasmine Hamid got the Tigers on the board in the 10th minute. Hamid headed home a corner kick from Reese Borden to give Towson a 1-0 lead.
- Towson had a pair of chances just minutes later, but a shot from Demi Pierre was blocked and an attempt from Maja Hansson went wide.
- UMBC had a good chance off the corner in the last minute, but Riley Melendez comes up with the ball to give Towson a 1-0 lead at the break.
- Nia Christopher found herself free at the top of the box in the 48th minute, but her attempt sailed just wide.
- Danielle Campbell nearly gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead but she hit the right post from 20 yards out.
- UMBC had a good chance in the 68th minute but Riley Melendez came up big with a save, punching the ball over the net.
- Phoebe Canoles gave Towson a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute. After a handball in the box, Canoles stepped up and converted the penalty kick in the lower left corner.
- UMBC would have a threatening free kick late, but Melendez scooped up the ball to give Towson a 2-0 win.
