TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision against Monmouth in their CAA opener on Thursday night.
Towson (7-2-1, 0-1 CAA) saw their six-game win streak snapped in the loss and suffered just their second loss of the season.
The Tigers had good chances late, but Monmouth (8-1, 1-0 CAA) held on for the win.

How It Happened:
- Monmouth controlled play for most of the early portion of the contest with neither side getting a shot on goal through the first 15 minutes.
- The Hawks would break through first in the 19th minute on a goal that bounced through the box and past Riley Melendez.
- Reese Borden had the best chance for the Tigers in the first half. She took a free kick from 20 yards out, but it was saved as Monmouth took a 1-0 lead at the break.
- Jasmine Hamid had a great chance in the 61st minute, but her shot went just over the crossbar.
- From there the Tigers started to find their footing, gaining most of the possession late in the match.
- Riley Melendez made a big save in the 81st minute. After Monmouth found themselves on a breakaway, Melendez made a big save one-on-one to keep it a 1-0 deficit.
- Just minutes later, Demi Pierre blasted a shot from outside the box that was just punched over the crossbar in the 84th minute.
- Towson would threaten again late, but the Hawks held on for a 1-0 victory.

- Monmouth outshot Towson 9-4 and had four corner kicks to just one for the Tigers.
- Three of the four Towson shots went on goal including both from Demi Pierre.
