TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team faced off against the Hampton Pirates Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (12-0, 2-0 CAA) swept the Hampton (3-2, 0-2 CAA) for the second straight day, 25-14, 25-12, 25-18.
Key Stats vs Hampton:
- Towson totaled seven service aces compared to zero for Hampton.
- The Tigers had a .296 hit percentage, including .359 percentage in the first set.
- Towson combined for 49 kills with 20 kills in the first set, while holding the Pirates to 22.
- The Tigers tallied 45 assists, which extended their streak to five games of 40 or more assists.
- Towson held the Pirates to a .123 hit percentage this afternoon including a 0.097 percentage in the final set.
How It Happened vs Hampton:
- Towson jumped out to a 5-2 lead through two kills by Irbe Lazda. The teams exchanged points, then the Tigers score 4 unanswered points to take a 11-5 advantage.
- Towson maintained a six-point lead until the Tigers went on a 6-1 run that included four kills from Fay Bakodimou to take a commanding 22-11 lead. The Pirates responded with three straight points, but Towson closed out the first set with three consecutive points to take the set 25-14.
- The Tigers opened the second set with a 7-3 run, then followed with a 9-2 run that included back-to-back service aces from Victoria Barrett to have a 16-5 lead.
- The teams went back-and-forth exchanging one or two point streaks until 20-11 when Towson finished the second set on a 5-1 run that included two kills form Aayinde Smith and Nina Cajic to win the set 25-12.
- The third set started with both teams going back-and-forth until the Pirates jumped out to an 8-6 lead. The Tigers countered with a 5-1 run to have an 11-9 lead. Towson then went on an 8-2 run to take control of the set 19-12.
- Hampton reduced their deficit to 20-16 after a 4-1 run, but the Tigers finished with a 5-2 rally that included two kills from Cajic to win the set 25-18 and win their 12th straight match.
Inside the Numbers vs Hampton:
- The Tigers had five players register six or more kills with Victoria Barrett and Nina Cajic having ten apiece to lead the team.
- Barrett added two aces, two block assists, four digs, and one ace.
- Fay Bakodimou had nine kills, one service ace and two digs. Bakodimou has registered nine kills three times this season.
- Rachel Hess had 12 digs, four assists and two aces to have three straight matches with an ace.
- Katie McCracken totaled 15 assists and six digs, while fellow setter Sarah Jordan had 20 assists for the fourth time this season.
- Towson is 12-0 for the second season in a row and starts CAA play 2-0 for third time in the last four years.
- The Tigers have swept nine of their 12 matches.
