Towson, Md. – Georgia Beachley converted a penalty stroke two minutes and 14 seconds into overtime as the Towson University field hockey team beat Longwood 3-2 Friday afternoon at the TU Field Hockey complex in the home opener. This was the first home opening victory since defeating Penn in 2011.
Beachley has three goals in three games this year. It was her 17
th career, which moves her into a ninth-place tie on the all-time list along with Colleen Cahill (1986-89) and Mariah Schuette (2007-09).
Gianna Antone and
Sarah Hatfield also scored for Towson.

Tessa Scheenstra had a career-best six saves, including four in the four quarter.

How it Happened:
- Antone put the Tigers on the board 11:09 into the game with her first goal of the season. The senior's pass from outside the circle deflected into the goal off a Longwood defender.
- Late in the third quarter, with the game tied at 1-all, Beachley sent a pass inside the circle. Samantha Aljets took a reverse shot that Hatfield redirected by the keeper giving the Tigers a 2-1 advantage with two and a half minutes remaining in the period.
- Longwood went on the offensive in the fourth quarter with five shots. Scheenstra turned away the first four before Longwood scored off a penalty corner with 2:31 remaining in regulation.
- After Longwood was whistled for a foul in front of the cage, while Hannah McKeon attempted a shot, Beachley ended the game with a penalty stroke goal.
Inside the Numbers:
- Both teams took eights shots on goal. The Tigers had one more penalty corner (9-8).
- Beachley trails Christina Boarman (46 goals), Julie Lambi (44), Ashley Bacon (27), Kajee Murangi (27), Lisa McCullen (26), Katie DeFilippo (25), Lauren Volk (21), Joann Engestrom (19) on the all-time goals list.

Towson heads back on the road on Sunday afternoon with a trip to the University of Richmond. Game time is noon. The Spiders beat Longwood 4-2 last weekend.
