Towson Secures First Road Win Over Quinnipiac

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team decisively defeated Quinnipiac University 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Complex.
 
Sarah Hatfield, Hannah McKeon and Hedwig Veldhuizen scored for the Tigers, while Georgia Beachley, Samantha Aljets, Veldhuizen and McKeon recorded assists.

How It Happened:
  • Sarah Hatfield found the back of the cage off a Quinnipiac turnover to start the second quarter, assisted by Georgia Beachley.
  • Tessa Scheenstra forced a shot wide in the middle of the second quarter to hold the lead for the Tigers.
  • Hannah McKeon secured her own rebound off a penalty corner and scored with less than a minute remaining in the first half to extend the Tigers' lead.
  • Hedwig Veldhuizen scored off a penalty corner to begin the second half to extend the Tigers' lead.
  • Quinnipiac converted a goal on their 12th penalty corner chance in the fourth quarter.
  • Sarah Hatfield scored off a penalty corner in the fourth quarter for her second goal of the day, assisted by Hedwin Veldhuizen.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Sarah Hatfield scored twice for the Tigers and is now tied for the team lead in goals and tied for second in points. The last Tiger to score multiple goals in a game was Georgia Beachley on Oct. 31 of last year against Davidson.
  • Beachley has recorded assists in back-to-back games, including two today, and leads the team with 11 points on the season.
  • Hannah McKeon has scored in back-to-back games for the first time in her career and her three goals this season is an individual season high.
  • Towson held a decisive advantage on penalty corners in the game, scoring three goals on three chances and holding Quinnipiac to one goal on 12 opportunities.
  • The Tigers scored multiple goals in a road game for the first time this season, helping to secure their first road win of the season.
