TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team played against the Stony Brook Seawolves on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (14-0, 4-0 CAA) swept Stony Brook (5-8, 0-4 CAA) 25-16, 25-16, 25-22 to extend the winning streak to 14.
Key Stats vs Stony Brook:
- Towson totaled nine service aces for the second time this season (vs. Princeton on 9/2/22).
- The Tigers had a .360 hit percentage, including .500 percentage in the first set.
- Towson combined for 49 kills, having 18 kills in the first set.
- The Tigers racked up 45 assists, which extended their streak to seven games of 40 or more assists.
- Towson held the Seawolves to a .212 hit percentage with 33 kills.
How It Happened vs Stony Brook:
- Towson got out to an 8-5 lead to start the first set. The Seawolves reduced the deficit to one three different times, but the Tigers were able to go on a 5-1 run to take an 18-12 lead.
- The teams went back-and-forth until Towson ended the set on another 5-1 run that was closed out by two Victoria Barrett service aces to win the set 25-16
- The teams were tied at five apiece in the second set, then the Tigers went on a 7-1 run to take a 12-7 lead. The Seawolves reduced the deficit to four, but Towson scored six unanswered, including two aces from Sarah Jordan to go up 19-9.
- The Tigers maintained a strong lead and earned set point on a Katie McCracken ace to take a 24-12 lead, their biggest lead of the afternoon. Stony Brook scored five straight points, but Amiyah De'Long's kill won the second set 25-16.
- Towson jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the third set scoring seven consecutive points, but the Seawolves were able to tie the score after scoring seven straight points themselves to tie the score at ten.
- The teams went back-and-forth with the Tigers able to take a 21-19 lead after being tied eight times. Nina Cajic scored the last four points of the set for the Tigers to seal the victory and the third set 25-22.
Inside the Numbers vs Stony Brook:
- The Tigers had five players total five or more kills with Nina Cajic having a career-high 18 kills. Cajic had a .667 hit percentage and added four block assists.
- Lydia Wiers had a .700 hit percentage with seven kills and four block assists.
- Rachel Hess finished with a season-high nine assists and had 12 digs to have double digit digs in six of the last seven matches.
- Four Tigers registered a service ace with Victoria Barrett having four aces to tie a season-high.
- Sarah Jordan had 19 assists, seven digs and two aces, while Katie McCracken had 15 assists, three digs and two aces.
- Towson improves to 14-0 on the year and has tallied 11 sweeps so far.
- The Tigers have won 13 straight sets, dropping their last set against #7 Pittsburgh on Sept. 10th.
