TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University athletics department today announced an agreement with NBC Sports Washington to broadcast seven home men's basketball games during the 2022-23 season.
All regular season Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) controlled men's basketball games air exclusively on FloSports on the digital side with CAA member institutions retaining rights for local linear television distribution.
Recently acquired by Washington D.C.-based Monumental Sports & Entertainment, NBC Sports Washington televises more than 500 live professional and collegiate sporting events per year. The network holds the exclusive regional cable television rights to the NBA's Washington Wizards and the NHL's Washington Capitals, both teams owned and operated by Monumental Sports and air all games that are not nationally exclusive. NBC Sports Washington is available on approximately 25 cable television providers throughout Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and West Virginia. The channel reaches more than 4.7 million households in the Mid-Atlantic region.
"We are very grateful for the partnership with NBC Sports Washington and this opportunity to expose our local TV markets to Towson Athletics," Towson Director of Athletics
Steve Eigenbrot said. "From a recruiting standpoint and the perspective of growing of our brand, the opportunity presented by this arrangement is incredibly impactful."
"We welcome Towson Athletics to the Monumental Sports & Entertainment family and are excited for this chance to bring sports fans a platform to show off some incredible talent from our own hometown," commented Zach Leonsis, President, Media & New Enterprises for Monumental Sports.
Coming off its first-ever CAA regular season title, the Towson University men's basketball team returns its top four scorers, including all-league players
Cam Holden, Nicolas Timberlake and
Charles Thompson as well as
Jason Gibson, who shot 43 percent from 3-point distance in 2021-22. Last season, the Tigers went 25-9 (15-3 CAA) and earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
"I am excited to have seven of our home games on NBC Sports Washington," Towson head coach
Pat Skerry said. "We have always prioritized playing on television at any time versus any opponent and these opportunities on NBC Sports Network allow us to showcase our great university, athletics programs and men's basketball."
Both Tigers non-conference games against local opponents will be televised on NBC Sports Washington: Nov. 22 versus Coppin State and Dec. 11 against Navy.
Five of the nine conference home games are part of the agreement: Dec. 31 versus the College of Charleston, Jan. 14 versus Monmouth, Jan. 16 against Hofstra, Jan. 28 versus William & Mary and Feb. 18 against NC A&T.
