Towson Men’s Basketball Falls at Delaware, 72-59 on Wednesday Night

NEWARK, Del. - Towson men's basketball fell at Delaware, 72-59 on Wednesday night. The Tigers trimmed a double-digit halftime deficit to just six but could not complete the comeback. 

Christian May led the Tigers (10-7, 2-2 CAA) with a career-high 11 points
with Nicolas Timberlake adding 13 points in the loss. 

Key Stats:
 
  • May scored a career-best 11 points on 4-7 shooting with three rebounds.  
  • Nicolas Timberlake was the only other Tiger in double figures with 11 points. Charles Thompson added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.  
  • Towson outrebounded Delaware 33-31 collecting 14 offensive rebounds and outscored the Blue Hens 19-3 in bench points. 
How It Happened: 
  • Delaware got out to a fast 7-0 start scoring on three of their first four possessions. 
  • Nicolas Timberlake ended the drought with a three off a timeout. 
  • That sparked a 7-0 run for the Tigers to tie it after a Sekou Sylla layup. 
  • Delaware would respond by ripping off an 11-0 run of their own to take their largest lead to that point of 11. 
  • Trailing by 15, Nygal Russell would drill a triple to cut into the deficit.  
  • Towson would get the deficit down to 11 twice after a Timberlake three and Russel and one, but the Blue Hens took a 39-26 lead into the locker rooms. 
  • Towson would come out of the locker room on fire cutting the deficit to nine after a Ryan Conway three.  
  • Christian May would cut the deficit to six with an and one off a feed from Charles Thompson. 
  • The Tigers would continue to battle back, getting the deficit down to four after Charles Thompson put back his own miss. 
  • Delaware would respond pushing their lead back to nine at the under eight timeout. 
  • The Tigers would cut into the lead late, getting it down to as many as six, but the Blue Hens held off the Tigers late, defeating Towson 72-59 on Wednesday night. 
Inside The Numbers: 
  • Nicolas Timberlake moved into 17th on the all-time scoring list, passing Jerrelle Benimon. Next on the list is Gary Neal in 16th place with 1,254 points. 
  • This is the 11th time this season that Towson outrebounded their opponent. In those games, Towson is now 7-4.
