NORFOLK, Va. – Towson women's soccer not only extended their win streak to six games in a 3-0 win against Hampton on Sunday, but the Tigers also reached 10 wins for the second consecutive season. Towson scored a pair of first half goals to cruise to victory on Sunday.
Towson (10-1-1, 6-0-1 CAA) remained at the top of the league standings with their win against the Pirates (0-13, 0-7 CAA).
Nia Christopher and
Jasmine Hamid each had first half goals with
Ryann Leohner scoring her first career goal late in the second half.
The Tigers also broke the program record for assists in a single season, now sitting at 36 for the year. The previous mark was 34 set back in 1996. The Tigers also have 19 points in league play, the most in a single season in program history.
Key Stats:
- Christopher scored her ninth goal of the campaign off an assist from Demi Pierre. The assist from Pierre tied the program mark for assists. Christopher would get an assist on Jasmine Hamid's goal to break the record.
- Ryann Leohner got her first career goal off a feed from Sydney Lindeman who got her first career point with the assist.
- Riley Melendez recorded her 24th career shutout in the win.
- Towson outshot Hampton 27-1 with 13 shots on goal.
How It Happened:
- Towson had good looks early with Nia Christopher, Jasmine Hamid and Alexandra Rush all getting shots off. However, all three were off target as the game remained scoreless early.
- The Tigers would break through in the 15th minute. Nia Christopher would put home a pass from Demi Pierre to give Towson an early lead.
- Rush had another good attempt on goal in the 23rd minute but her shot into the top right side was stopped.
- The Tigers would continue to apply pressure. Jasmine Hamid would make it a 2-0 game after slotting home her shot into the bottom left of the goal in the 33rd minute with Christopher providing the assist.
- Towson would continue to pepper the Hampton goalkeeper, outshooting the Pirates 15-0 in the first half take a 2-0 lead at the break.
- Phoebe Canoles had a shot off an early second half corner kick but her shot was saved.
- Alexandra Rush would nearly extend the lead but her shot was pushed over the bar to keep it 2-0.
- Ryann Leohner added a goal in the 88th minute off a pass from Sydney Lindeman. She put home her first career goal to make it 3-0 as the Tigers would go on to win by that score.

- The Tigers broke their single season record for assists that was previously set at 34 back in 1996.
