Field Hockey Comeback Falls Short vs. Holy Cross on Senior Day

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team fell to Holy Cross 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the TU Field Hockey Complex.

  • Holy Cross – 7-8, 2-4 Patriot
 
How it Happened:
  • The Tigers opened the first period with two shots on two corners but could not connect. The quarter ended with a green card assessed to Samantha Aljets in the final 10 seconds.
  • Goalie Tessa Scheenstra made four saves in the second period before Sarah Potter got one past her on a deflection, assisted by Kendall Blomquist, with less than 10 seconds remaining in the half.
  • On the third of three consecutive penalty corners to start the second half for the Crusaders, Katie Guden found the cage with an assist from Julia Carrozza
  • With just under 2:30 remaining in the third quarter, Saskia Williams put away the unassisted score for a 3-0 lead.
  • Off a penalty corner midway through the fourth, Sarah Hatfield found Madisyn Howard for the goal.
  • With a few minutes remaining in regulation, Samantha Aljets found Hatfield in the circle to cut the deficit to one.
  •  Towson held Holy Cross without a shot in the fourth quarter but couldn't connect on the third goal to send the game to overtime.

The Tigers close out the season facing Delaware on Friday, Oct. 27 in CAA play for the final game of the season.
