ELMONT, N.Y. –Towson men's basketball battled back and forth with Bryant on Saturday, falling 101-93 in double overtime on Saturday.
Dylan Williamson scored a career-high 18 points in the loss going 6-13 from the floor.
Towson (5-6) had six hit double figures against Bryant (7-6). The Tigers dominated the glass outrebounded the Bulldogs 61-35, including 25 on the offensive glass.
Key Stats:
- Both Mekhi Lowery and Charles Thompson notched double doubles with Lowery posting career bests of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Thompson had 10 points with 16 rebounds.
- Williamson had 18 points with Christian May (15) and Messiah Jones (15) also reaching double figures.
- Towson had 40 points in the paint and outrebounded Bryant 61-35.
How It Happened:
- Towson got out to a 5-0 start off a Christian May three and Tyler Tejada floater, but the Bulldogs responded with a 6-0 spurt of their own to take the lead.
- That would extend to a 15-1 run over a three-minute stretch that ended with a Messiah Jones hook shot in the lane.
- The Tigers continued to battle back cutting the deficit to four after a Jones free throw.
- Towson would fight all the way back to tie it after a Mekhi Lowery bucket, part of a 6-0 run and 12-2 run over 4:21. The Tigers would end the half on a 10-2 run over the last 3:56 to take a 37-33 lead at the break.
- Messiah Jones led the Tigers with 11 points as Towson shot 43 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three.
- Bryant opened the half outscoring the Tigers by ten to take back the lead by six at the under 12 timeout. Christian May would end the drought with a three, and Dylan Williamson would hit tough driving layup to cut the deficit to one.
- The Tiger offense would awaken connecting on five of six including a three from Tyler Tejada to put Towson back in front at the under eight timeout.
- Towson would lead by as many as eight before the Bulldogs would battle back to cut the deficit to two with under a minute to go.
- Bryant would force overtime on a foul call with three seconds left to make it 73-73 after regulation.
- Towson would take an early lead in the extra session before a steal and finish gave Bryant the lead back with under a minute to go.
- Charles Thompson would split a pair of free throws and get a big block late to force double overtime.
- The Bulldogs would get out to an early 8-0 run in the second overtime and hold off the Tigers 101-93 on Saturday.
Inside the Numbers:
- Charles Thompson reset his season best with four blocked shots. Messiah Jones scored 15 points, his most in a Tiger uniform.
- This is the eighth time Towson outrebounded their opponent and are now 5-3 in those games.
