TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball picked up a big win against A-10 foe Massachusetts on Wednesday. The Tigers led wire to wire to defeat the Minutemen 81-71 at TU Arena.
Christian May and
Dylan Williamson each had career days in the win.
Towson (4-5) led for all but 26 second against Massachusetts (4-2) in the win.
Christian May dropped a career-high 27 points with
Dylan Williamson adding a career-best 17 in the win.
Key Stats:
- May went 8-11 from the floor and 3-5 from three adding seven rebounds in the win.
- Williamson was just as efficient going 6-12 from the floor with three assists.
- Charles Thompson had a monster game with 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double adding three blocks and two steals.
- Towson shot 48 percent from the floor and outrebounded UMass 39-27 with 15 offensive rebounds.
How It Happened:
- Towson got out to a fast start going 5-6 from the floor in the first four minutes. Tyler Tejada made it a five-point lead with a corner three just before the media timeout.
- The Tigers would continue their strong shooting effort leading by as many as 12 midway through the first half.
- The Minutemen would cut into the deficit pulling with in six before Mekhi Lowery would end the run with a tough layup just before the under eight timeout.
- Both teams would struggle from the floor late in the half, but Dylan Williamson would end the half with a driving layup to put Towson in front 36-27 at the break.
- Christian May led the Tigers with nine points in the first half. Towson outrebounded the Minutemen 21-15 and shot 50 percent from the floor.
- Both teams would come out of the halftime break shooting well with Christian May extending the lead to double digits with a three on the wing.
- UMass would comeback and trim the Tiger lead to five points before an and one from Dylan Williamson pushed the Tigers back in front by eight.
- Towson would rip off an 11-0 run with Christian May scoring nine points on the run including seven straight.
- The Tigers would hold off the Minutemen late, 81-71 to stay unbeaten at home this season.
Inside The Numbers:
- Charles Thompson moved into sixth all-time in minutes played passing Mike Fink.
- Christian May reset a career-high with 27 points. His previous career best was 14 points against William & Mary last season. This was his first 20-point performance of his career.
- Dylan Williamson also reset his career-high with 17 points, breaking his previous best of 15 against Colorado in the season opener.
- This was the highest scoring game for the Tigers this season breaking the previous high of 70 against Coppin State.
- Towson remains unbeaten at home this year and are now 95-41 all-time at TU Arena. Head coach Pat Skerry won his 197th game at Towson and is three shy of win number 200.
