PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Towson men's basketball rallied back from a seven-point second half deficit to force overtime but fell just short in the extra session in a 73-66 loss at Drexel on Saturday. The Tigers were led by
Cam Holden who had a game-high 25 points.
Towson (17-9, 9-4 CAA) trailed by as many as seven to Drexel (15-11, 9-5 CAA) midway through the second half and had a chance to win it in regulation. The Tigers had a look with the shot clock winding down but could not get the shot off in time.
The Tigers led in overtime, but the Dragons took the lead for good with a minute to go.
Key Stats:
- Holden led all scorers with 25 points, collecting seven rebounds and dishing out four assists.
- Nicolas Timberlake and Charles Thompson each chipped in 14 points with Thompson grabbing a team-best eight rebounds.
- Towson forced 18 turnovers, scoring 16 points off those turnovers while also scoring 34 points in the paint.
How It Happened:
- Towson ripped off a 9-0 run after giving up a bucket on the first possession. Cam Holden had seven of the nine points on the run, including a baseline drive that ended with a two-hand flush.
- Nicolas Timberlake made it an eight-point lead with a driving dunk, but the Dragons would battle back to tie it 15-15 at the under 12 timeout.
- Ryan Conway would put the Tigers back in front after a steal and finish off an inbounds pass. He then forced a turnover on the very next possession as the Tigers lead 24-23 with less than four minutes left in the half.
- Drexel would find their footing late in the half, taking a 31-30 lead into the break. Both Towson and Drexel made 13 shots and three triples in the first half.
- The Dragons got out to a fast 5-0 start, but Cam Holden quelled the spurt with an and one to cut the deficit to two.
- Trailing by seven, Cam Holden and Rahdir Hicks hit back-to-back buckets to cut the deficit to three at the under 12 timeout.
- Towson would continue to battle back. Nygal Russell would drill a three off an offensive rebound to cut it to 53-51 with under four minutes remaining.
- The Tigers would tie it after a pair of Holden free throws. Charles Thompson had a shot late that was waived off on a shot clock violation. Drexel had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but the shot just missed as we headed to overtime.
- In the extra frame, Towson grabbed a four-point lead with under two minutes to go. The Dragons would take the lead for good with a minute to go, holding on for a 73-66 win.

- Towson is now 0-3 in overtime games this season with all three decided by a combined 11 points.
- Cam Holden recorded his fifth 20-plus point game this season and his third in the last four games.
