WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Towson men's basketball had a last second look to tie come up short in a 68-66 loss at William & Mary on Monday night. There were 11 lead changes in the contest with
Cam Holden scoring a game-high 22 points with 11 rebounds.
Towson (17-10, 9-5 CAA) had a four-point lead late, but William & Mary (10-17, 5-9 CAA) ended the game on a 6-0 run to hold off the Tigers.
Key Stats:
- Cam Holden recorded a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double with four assists.
- Charles Thompson also had a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Ryan Conway added 11 points in the loss.
- The Tigers outrebounded the Tribe, 37-27 scoring 34 points in the paint.
How It Happened:
- William & Mary got out to a quick start, leading by as many as 12 early on.
- Towson would find their rhythm connecting on their last four shots at the under 12 media timeout on four Charles Thompson points.
- That would spark a 7-0 Tiger run at the under eight timeout that cut the deficit to 22-19 after a Nygal Russell three from straight away.
- Towson battled all the way back to take a 29-27 lead late in the first half, holding the Tribe scoreless over 2:17. Charles Thompson put the Tigers on top with a layup off a Cam Holden pass.
- The Tigers would end the half with a flurry outscoring William & Mary 13-3 in the last 5:18 of the half to take a 37-30 lead at the break.
- Charles Thompson nearly had a double-double in the first half, scoring 10 points with nine rebounds.
- William & Mary came out firing to open the second half, erasing the Tigers seven-point lead.
- Both teams would exchange leads between the under 16 and under 12 media timeouts, but it was Ryan Conway would drill a three to put Towson up one at the under 12 timeout.
- After the Tribe took the lead late, Charles Thompson would drive down the lane and put Towson back in front.
- The Tigers would lead by four with a minute to go, but the Tribe would tie it with 32 seconds left.
- Cam Holden had a shot with under 10 seconds to go miss off the rim. The Tribe would draw a foul with 1.4 to go, hitting both free throws to take a 68-66 lead.
- Nicolas Timberlake would have a look late, but his tip-in attempt just missed as Towson fell, 68-66 at William & Mary on Monday.
