TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team fell to North Carolina A&T in CAA play 9-8 at World War Memorial Stadium in East Greensboro, N.C. Friday evening.
The Tigers and Aggies battled in the conference opener with the Tigers jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. North Carolina A&T answered with five runs in the first on four hits and one error. The Tigers cut the score to 5-3 in the third and took a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh on four hits. Once again, the Aggies responded with three runs on three hits, making it a 8-6 game. The Aggies picked up an insurance run in the eighth, score 9-6. Towson challenged in the ninth inning with two runs but couldn't convert the necessary run to extend the game.
Key Stats:
- Seven of the Aggies' ten hits in the game came in the two innings they scored in, the first and seventh innings.
- The Aggies batted 2-for-5 with the bases loaded, scoring five runs in those at-bats.
- Towson outhit North Carolina A&T in the game, finishing with 12 hits, including four multi-hit games from Casey Bishop, Bryan Heckelman, Bryce Frederick and Elijah Dickerson.
How it Happened:
- Heckelman started the scoring with a solo shot to left field. Later in the inning with a runner on third, Dickerson singled to right field making it a 2-0 game.
- With the bases loaded a Tre Williams double to right center tied the game. A sacrifice fly and two singles scored three more in the inning to make it 5-2.
- In the third, Frederick singled up the middle with runners on the corners, cutting the deficit to two.
- In the seventh, Frederick doubled down the right field line to tie the game. The Tigers took the lead on the next at-bat when Dickerson singled through the right side.
- In the bottom of the inning, Williams grounded out to second base, tying the game again. Two at-bats later with the bases loaded, two runs scored on a single through the left side.
- The Aggies tacked on one more in the eighth on a single to right center.
- With the bases loaded and one out in the ninth, Dickerson's sacrifice fly cut the deficit to two. Bishop scored on a wild pitch to cut the score to 9-8 but the Tigers couldn't get the last run across to push the game to extras.
Inside the Numbers:
- Bryce Frederick has had 3-for-5 performances in back-to-back games, with 10 RBI in that span. He leads the team with 14, good for fifth in the CAA.
- Nate Nabholz had his fourth shutout appearance of the season, striking out four and walking two in four innings. His 2.40 ERA is tied for sixth in the CAA among qualified pitchers to go along with his 15 strikeouts, tied for tenth in the league.
- James Moses extended his hitting streak to six games and his on-base streak to 11 games.
- Casey Bishop raised his batting average to .365, good for 13th in the league.

Sunday's game has been rescheduled to tomorrow, March 11. The teams will now play a doubleheader. Game one slated for 1 p.m. Game two will follow 45 minutes after the completion of game one.
