Towson Softball Drops a Pair at UNCW on Saturday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Towson softball opened CAA play at UNCW on Saturday falling to the Seahawks 9-3 in game one and 9-2 in game two of the double header. The Tigers held a brief 3-1 lead in game one before the Seahawks scored nine unanswered.

Towson (8-7, 0-2 AE) got a pair of RBIs from Cara Bohner in game one and got an RBI from Sydni Byers in game two.

Key Stats – Game One:
  • Briana Ramirez and Madyson Peters each had a pair of hits in the contest.
  • Peters and Bohner each had a double, the lone extra base hits of the game.
  • Bohner drove in two runs with Ramirez also adding an RBI.
How It Happened – Game One:
  • UNCW would get on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first.
  • Towson would respond the next half inning with a three-run second. Cara Bohner tied the game with an RBI double that scored Emma Armstrong and Madyson Peters.
  • Briana Ramirez would make it 3-1 with an RBI single through the left side that plated Bohner.
  • However, the Tiger bats would be silenced the rest of the way with the Seahawks scoring eight unanswered to give them a 9-3 win in game one.
Key Stats – Game Two:
  • Bohner and Elizabeth Yoskowitz each had a pair of hits with Sydni Byers driving in a run.
  • Mackenzie Lake and Byers each scored with Byers drilling a home run.
  • The Tigers left seven runners on base with the Seahawks leaving four on base.
How It Happened – Game Two:
  • UNCW once again scored first with a run in their half of the first inning.
  • Towson would respond, tying the game with a solo home run from Sydni Byers to left field.
  • However, the Seahawks would score seven straight of the next three innings to take an 8-1 lead.
  • The Tigers would get a run back in the sixth. Mackenzie Lake led off with a single to short and would score off an error to make it 8-2.
  • UNCW would score in their half of the sixth and hold off the Tigers in the seventh for a 9-2 win in game two.
Next Game:
Towson and UNCW will conclude their series tomorrow, Sunday, March 12. Game time has been moved up to 10 a.m. due to impending weather in the Wilmington area. The game will be streamed on FloSports.
