Peters Leads Towson Softball to 9-5 Win Against Charleston to Earn a Series Sweep

TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball ran their win streak to three after a 9-5 win against Charleston on a windy and cold Sunday afternoon. The Tigers trailed into the sixth inning before putting up six runs to even their CAA record.

Towson (12-9, 3-3 CAA) lead after the first but Charleston scored five straight to take a 5-3 lead after four. The Tiger offense would explode in the sixth, capped by a Madyson Peters grand slam to give Towson 9-5 lead.

The Tigers earned their first three-game series sweep since 2019, when they swept Drexel.

Key Stats:
  • Peters led the Tigers with four RBIs and a home run.
  • Cori Jones and Mackenzie Lake each had a pair of hits with Cara Bohner recording the other hit on the day for the Tigers.
  • Paige Kostick picked up her second win of the season going four innings of relief, giving up just one run.
  • Maddie Gardner picked up a save with one inning of scoreless relief.
How It Happened:
  • The Tigers got out to an early lead after a wild pitch scored Cori Jones in the first. Towson would add to that in the first off a two-RBI single from Cara Bohner to give Towson a 3-0 lead.
  • After a scoreless second, Charleston would score four runs in the third and one in the fourth to push ahead 5-3.
  • Towson would get runners to second and third in the fifth, but a pop out would end the threat.
  • The Tigers then found their offense in the sixth. Emma Armstrong reached on an error and advanced on another Cougar error.
  • Sydni Byers would get hit by a pitch to load the bases. Cori Jones would bring home Elizabeth Yoskowitz and Kellie Zoerb to tie the game.
  • With the bases loaded, Madyson Peters came up and unloaded a grand slam to deep left field to put Towson in front 9-5.
  • Maddie Gardner would come on in the seventh and close the door on the Cougars to give Towson a 9-5 win and a series sweep.
Inside The Numbers:
  • Madyson Peters hit her team leading third home run this season. She is now up to 21 RBIs this year.
  • This was the first three-game CAA series sweep since the Tigers swept Drexel back in 2019.
Next Game:
Towson will conclude their seven-game home stand with a double header against Villanova on Tuesday, March 21. First pitch for game one is slated at 2 p.m. at Tiger Softball Stadium and will air on FloSports.
