TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball saw their three-game win streak come to an end with a pair of losses to Villanova on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers clawed back from a 5-0 deficit in game one to force extra innings.
Towson (12-11) forced extra innings in game one with a furious four-run seventh inning. However the Wildcats would score twice in the extra frame to defeat the Tigers.
Key Stats – Game One:
- Briana Ramirez and Mackenzie Lake were the lone Tigers with multiple hits. Ramirez went 2-5 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored while Lake was 2-3 with a run scored.
- Maddie Gardner came on in relief, throwing four innings with seven strikeouts, the second most in an appearance this season.
How It Happened – Game One:
- Villanova would jump out early on the Tigers putting up five runs over the middle three innings to take an early lead.
- Towson would finally break through in the sixth with a run. Mackenzie Lake would lead off the inning with a walk.
- Emma Armstrong would come up and lace a triple to right to score Lake to make it 5-1.
- Towson would continue their rally in the seventh. Sydni Byers led off the inning with a single up the middle. Nadia Martyniuk would pinch run for Byers and later score on a Briana Ramirez single to cut the deficit to 5-2.
- Just pitches later, Kellie Zoerb would score on a wild pitch and Ramirez would score on a single from Cori Jones to make it 5-4.
- The Tigers would complete the comeback, tying the game on an Alyssa Myint double to bring home Jones and force extra innings.
- In the extra session, Villanova would score twice and hold off the Tigers for a 7-5 win in game one.

How It Happened – Game Two:
- Towson starter Morgan Wagner would have a strong start to the game, striking out seven over the first four innings including five out of six straight batters.
- The Tigers would threaten in the bottom of the fourth getting a runner to third, but the runner would be stranded.
- Villanova would take the lead in the fifth with a leadoff solo home run to make it 1-0.
- The Wildcats would continue to add to their lead with runs in the sixth and seventh to take a 6-0 lead.
- Towson would get the lead runner on in the seventh with Cori Jones lacing a single to left, but she would be stranded on base as the Tigers fell in game two 6-0.
