Three Tigers Earn Honors on CAA Men’s Basketball All-Conference Teams

TOWSON, Md. – Three Tigers were honored on the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Conference teams, the conference announced Thursday. Nicolas Timberlake led the way with his second straight All-CAA First Team honor.

Timberlake was named to the All-CAA First Team for the second consecutive season while Cam Holden and Charles Thompson each earned a spot on the All-CAA Second Team. Thompson was also named to the CAA All-Defensive Team.

Timberlake led the team averaging 17.7 ppg, shooting 45 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three. In CAA games, the Massachusetts native averaged 19.1 ppg, shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor and three. He finished third in the league in scoring and second in three-point field goal percentage.

Holden finished just behind Timberlake at 14.3 ppg and dished out a team best 135 assists (4.8 per game) with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.5. He was second on the team with 7.1 rpg finishing the season 11th in scoring and second in assists in the CAA. He recorded a 24-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist triple double against William & Mary in February, the second triple double in program history.

Thompson was dominant in the paint once again for Towson, earning All-CAA Second Team and All-Defensive Team honors for the second straight season. Thompson was third on the team averaging 12.3 ppg while leading the team with 8.0 rpg. He amassed 52 blocked shots, second most in the CAA, averaging 1.7 per game.

All three players reached the 1,000-point plateau for their careers in 2022-23 and Nicolas Timberlake has moved himself into the top of several records. Timberlake is currently ninth on the all-time scoring list with 1,486 points. He is just 12 points from eighth place and 37 points from seventh place. He is also the all-time leader in three pointers made and attempted.

Aaron Estrada of Hofstra repeated as Player of the Year after finishing the year averaging over 20.0 ppg while his head coach Speedy Claxton was named Coach of the Year. The other major award winners were Max Mackinnon of Elon (Rookie of the Year), Amari Williams of Drexel (Defensive Player of the Year), Pat Robinson III of Charleston (Sixth Man of the Year), Zac Ervin of Elon (Scholar-Athlete of the Year) and Coleman Stucke of Northeastern (Dean Ehlers Leadership Award).

The Tigers will open the 2023 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship in the quarterfinal round as the three seed against the winner of No. 6 Delaware and No. 11 Northeastern. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m. on FloHoops on Sunday, March 5 in D.C.
