TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team fell 3-2 to the College of Charleston Sunday afternoon after an early lead at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.
Towson (7-19, 1-8 CAA) jumped out to a lead over Charleston (16-7, 7-2 CAA) early, scoring two runs on two hits in the third. The Cougars cut the deficit to one with a run in the fourth. Two in the fifth gave them a 3-2 lead. The game remained scoreless through the last three and a half innings of the game, giving Charleston the win.
Key Stats:
- James Moses finished the day batting 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Reyce Curnane batted 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks.
- Luis Rivera recorded the loss for the Tigers, falling to 3-2 on the year. Max Simpson closed out the game with two hitless innings pitched while fanning two batters.
- Charleston starter Cole Mathis (2-0) recorded the win while Alex Lyon picked up a save (2). Charleston first baseman JT Marr finished the day batting 2-for-4.
How it Happened:
- In the third, Josh Janove walked and James Moses doubled to put runners on second and third. Reyce Curnane found grass in left field with a bloop single to score Janove. Moses scored on the following at-bat, on a ground ball to short.
- A double play groundout with the bases loaded in the fourth cut the Cougar deficit to one.
- Charleston took the lead on two runs in the fifth. A single through the left side with a runner on second and a double to left center to follow did the damage, giving the Cougars a 3-2 advantage.
- The Tigers couldn't produce anymore base runners for the remainder of the game, making it a 3-2 final in favor of Charleston.
