TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball picked up a walk-off 2-1 win in game one before a tough 9-1 loss in game two of a midweek double header against Morgan State on Wednesday afternoon. In the win, Towson tied their win total from the 2022 season.
Towson (14-15) lost a 1-0 lead in game one, but
Sydni Byers provided the heroics with a walk-off fielder's choice in the eighth to give the Tigers a 2-1 win. In the nightcap, Towson fell behind early on their way to a 9-1 loss.
Key Stats – Game One:
- Maddie Gardner picked up the win in a complete game, scattering just three hits with 10 strikeouts.
- Five different Tigers recorded a hit with Cara Bohner and Sydni Byers driving in a run.
How It Happened – Game One:
- After both starting pitchers breezed through the lineups in the first three innings, Towson finally broke through in their half of the fourth.
- With two outs in the inning, Madyson Peters singled through the right side to put a runner on. She would steal second and then score on a Cara Bohner RBI single to right to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
- Morgan State would respond with a run in the sixth on an RBI single to tie the game.
- The Tigers made a great defensive play in the eighth to cut down the runner going home to end the inning.
- In the bottom of the inning, Sydni Byers came through, reaching on a fielder's choice that scored Alyssa Myint to give Towson a 2-1 win.

How It Happened – Game Two:
- The Lady Bears jumped on the Tigers early, pushing three runs across in the first inning.
- They would add four more in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead.
- Towson would get on the board in the fourth. Mackenzie Lake took the first pitch she saw in the inning and belted a solo home run over the left field fence to cut the deficit to 7-1.
- However, Morgan State would get a two-run home run in the sixth to extend the deficit to 9-1.
- Towson had a chance in the bottom of the sixth, but the Tigers could not push a run across, falling 9-1 in six innings.
Next Game:
Towson will continue their home stand with a weekend series against Drexel on Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2. The Tigers and Dragons will play two on Saturday starting at noon with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
