TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball got a late inning sacrifice fly from
Sydni Byers to lift the Tigers past Bryant, 4-3 on Saturday.
Maddie Gardner had a career day in the circle, scattering five hits with a career-high 12 strikeouts in the win.
Towson (5-4) fell behind early to Bryant (2-5), but a home run tied it early on. The Tigers got a strong pitching performance from Gardner who had 12 a career-high 12 strikeouts in the win.
Key Stats:
- Mackenzie Lake, Madyson Peters and Cori Jones each had a muti-hit day with Lake driving in a run.
- Briana Ramirez also drove in a run with a hit and a run scored.
- Byers went 1-1 from the plate with two RBIs, including a solo home run.
- Gardner scattered five hits with 12 strikeouts for her third win of the season.
How It Happened:
- The Bulldogs got things started in the third with a solo home run.
- Towson quickly responded. Sydni Byers drilled a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning to tie it at 1-1.
- The Tigers would threaten the next inning with Madyson Peters leading off with a double. Shoe would work to third on a ground out but would be stranded on base.
- Towson would briefly take a 3-1 lead in the fifth. Briana Ramirez singled home Nadia Martyniuk who pinch ran for Byers after a walk. Mackenzie Lake would drive in Ramirez on a double to left in the very next at bat.
- That lead would not last long as the Bulldogs tied in on a two-run home run in the sixth.
- However, the Tigers would take the lead with a Byers sacrifice fly that scored Kellie Zoerb.
- Bryant would get a runner to third in the seventh inning, but Gardner got a ground out to give Towson a 4-3 win.
