Towson Baseball Drops Two in Doubleheader vs. Eastern Michigan

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team dropped both games in its Saturday doubleheader against Eastern Michigan at Schuerholz Park in Towson, Md. The Tigers fell in game one 9-0 dropped a tighter second game 7-3.
 
Eastern Michigan got out to an early lead with four runs on five hits in the first inning. Matt Kirk's RBI groundout extended the lead to 5-0 for the Eagles. In the seventh, Aaron Dolney homered to right center with a runner on, tacking on two more. Cory Taylor doubled to right field later in the inning to score two, making it a 9-0 game.
 
The Tigers started the scoring in the second game on Elijah Dickerson's single to center field in the bottom of the first inning. Eastern Michigan got three across in the top of the second to make it a 3-1 lead. Two fielder's choices sent home two more runners for the Eagles in the top of the fourth. The Tigers responded with a run on a Josh Janove sacrifice fly to center. Elijah Dickerson's double with a man on second cut the deficit to two. Cole Wilcox knocked home two more runs in the top of the seventh.
 
Key Stats:
  • The Tigers were 0-6 with runners in scoring position in game one, hitting .179 in the game.
  • Towson outhit Eastern Michigan 10 to five in game two. They batted .286 (10-35) overall and .375 (3-for-8) with runners in scoring position, topping the Eagles in both categories.
  • The Tigers allowed 13 runners in game two on a combined eighth walks and five hit batters.
 
How it Happened (Game One):
  • Matt Kirk homered in the top of the first to give the Eagles an early lead. With runners on second and third, Aaron Dolney singled to right field to get two more across. Blake McRae grounded out to Dolney, getting a fourth across in the inning.
  • With runners on second and third in the fourth, Matt Kirk grounded out to second base, scoring a fifth run for the visitor.
  • The Eagles put up four more runs in the seventh, Dolney's home run to right center scored the first two. Cory Taylor's double to right with runners on second and third scored two more in the inning.
 
How it Happened (Game Two):
  • The Tigers scored first in game two on a Dickerson single to center field, making it a 1-0 game.
  • The Eagles responded in the second with three runs. With second and third occupied, Kyle Schroedle's single to right center sent home two runs. Later in the inning, Kirk flied out to left field, sending home another run.
  • With the bases loaded in the fourth, the Eagles scored on an error. A fielder's choice putout at second in the next at-bat made it a 5-1 game.
  • In the bottom of the inning, Josh Janove hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to make it a 5-2 game.
  • With a runner on second in the bottom of the fifth, Dickerson doubled to left center, cutting the deficit to two.
  • In the seventh, Cole Wilcox doubled down the left field line with runners on second and third to make it 7-3.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • James Moses extended his on-base streak to eight games with a hit and walk in each game.
  • Casey Bishop's five-game hitting streak ended after his two-hit game one.
  • Dickerson, Jeremy Wagner and Harper Sy each picked up multi-hit games in game two.
  • The Tigers were walked a season-high eight times in game one.

Towson and Eastern Michigan will wrap up this four-game series with a Sunday, March 5 finale at 1 p.m. at Schuerholz Park.
