TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team's early lead over Eastern Michigan wasn't enough to withstand the Eagles' late offensive surge, falling 11-6 in 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Schuerholz Park in Towson, Md.
The Tigers produced an early 6-0 lead through four innings. In the first, four walks gave the Tigers the early lead. With the bases loaded in the third inning,
Elijah Dickerson's groundout to the first baseman pushed the lead to two. The Tigers put up four runs in the fourth on a solo home run, two RBI single and a sacrifice fly. The Eagles answered with four runs on five hits in the fifth inning, cutting the Towson lead to two. Eastern Michigan tied the game in the seventh on a single through the left side with runners on second and third. In the 11
th, the Eagles got five across on five hits to take the game in extras.
Key Stats:
- The Towson leadoff batter reached safely or score in four of the first five innings. In the last six innings, only one leadoff batter reached safely for the Tigers.
- The Tigers were outhit 15 to seven overall on the afternoon. With runners in scoring position, the Eagles posted an 8-for-12 mark while the Tigers were 3-for-9.
- Eastern Michigan posted two big innings which primarily put Towson away, with four in the fifth and five in extras in the eleventh.
How it Happened:
- The Tigers got an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first by way of four walks.
- Elijah Dickerson came to the plate with the bases loaded in the third. Casey Bishop beat the tag at home on Dickerson's groundout to first, extending the lead.
- To lead off the fourth, Jack Lawrence hit a home run to left field to make it a 3-0 game. With the bases load, Brian Heckelman's sacrifice fly scored Jordan Peyton for another. Later with the bases loaded, Elijah Dickerson's two RBI single made it a 6-0 game after four innings.
- The Eagles responded in the fifth with four runs on five hits. Cory Taylor singled through the left side for the first run. Glenn Miller's double scored two more, and Miller was able to reach home on an error.
- The Eagles score two more in the seventh on an Alex Kross single through the left side in runners on second and third.
- The game went to extras knotted at six apiece. In the 11th, a single by Kross got the first run home. The Eagles scored four more on three singles later in the inning.
Inside the Numbers:
- James Moses extended his streak of reaching base safely to nine games, a team season high. He also extended his hitting streak to four games following his 3-for-5 performance.
- Elijah Dickerson had a season-high four RBI game to tie for the lead with Brian Heckelman and Casey Bishop. That also matched the team season high with Bishop's four RBI day on Friday.
- Brett Seils registered season lows with just one hit and no runs surrendered in 3.0 innings pitched.

Towson will head to Arlington, Virginia to face George Washington on Wednesday on Wednesday, March 8 at 2:30 p.m. Following that, the Tigers will open conference play with a trip to Greensboro, N.C. to face Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) newcomer North Carolina A&T in a three-game weekend series starting Friday, March 10.
