TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team put up their strongest offensive performance this season to take down George Washington 21-11 at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia on Wednesday afternoon.
George Washington scored first with four runs in the first inning. The Tigers responded with seven runs to take the lead in the second. They didn't relinquish the lead from that point on, tacking on three more in the third, one each in the fifth and sixth, two in the seventh, five in the eighth and two in the ninth. George Washington stayed on their heels, scoring two in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the seventh and two in the ninth.
Key Stats:
- Every batter in Towson's starting lineup recorded a hit, with the team finishing with 20 hits in the game. Eight of nine Towson starters recorded multi-hit games on the afternoon, with Jordan Peyton, Bryce Frederick and Brian Heckelman pacing the team with three hits apiece.
- The Towson offense scored a season-high 21 runs in the game. The last time the Tigers scored 21 runs in a game was against UMBC on March 4, 2020 in a game they won 21-4.
- Elijah Dickerson reached base a team-high six times in the game with two hits, three walks and a hit by pitch.
How it Happened:
- George Washington got the first run of the game across on a throwing error. With a runner on second, Noah Levin's double to left center extended the lead to two. Michael Kohn hit a home run to left center to make it a 4-0 game after one
- The Tigers responded with seven runs in the second. First, a Jordan Peyton single to center field scored Elijah Dickerson with the bases loaded. James Moses reached on an error by the pitcher, scoring Jack Lawrence to cut further into the deficit. Bishop's walk in the following at-bat made it a 4-3 game. The ninth batter of the inning, Bryce Frederick, hit a grand slam to give Towson the lead.
- With the bases loaded in the third inning, Heckelman's single to left scored two runs. A third run scored on a throwing error by the left fielder, making the game 10-4 Tigers.
- The Colonials cut the deficit to four in the fourth inning with a two-run triple to left center from Sam Gates.
- Josh Janove hit a home run to left in the top of the fifth to make it a 11-6 ballgame.
- Anthony Frechette of GW responded with a solo shot to left center in the bottom of the fifth.
- In the sixth, Elijah Dickerson extended the lead to 12-7 again on an RBI double to left center.
- The Tigers scored two more runs on three hits and an error in the seventh to make it a 14-7 game.
- An Eddie Micheletti single through the left side cut the Towson lead to 14-9 in the seventh inning.
- With the bases loaded in the eighth, Moses walked to make it 15-9. Later in the inning, Frederick singled up the middle to send home two more runs for the Tigers. Again, with the bases loaded, Jack Lawrence hit an RBI single through the left side to make it 21-9.
- With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Michael Kohn hit an RBI double to left center to make it a 21-11 game.
Inside the Numbers:
- James Moses extended his on-base streak to 10 games and his hitting streak to five games, tying Bishop's season-high five game hitting streak earlier this season. His two-hit performance gives him the team-lead with five multi-hit games this season.
- Moses, Frederick, Heckelman, Lawrence and Dickerson each picked up multi-RBI games. Dickerson leads the team with three this season while Moses, Frederick and Heckelman have two apiece.
- Bryce Frederick now leads the team with 11 RBI each this season after a season-high seven in the game.

Towson will open the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) slate with a trip to Greensboro, N.C. to face conference newcomer North Carolina A&T in a three-game weekend series weekend series starting Friday, March 10 at 4 p.m. Saturday's game time is 2 p.m. Game time for Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
