Towson Women’s Lacrosse Scores Season-High as the Tigers Win Their Fourth Straight

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team hosted the Elon Phoenix at Tiger Field on Saturday. The Tigers (8-3, 3-0 CAA) defeated the Phoenix (4-8, 0-3 CAA) 17-14 in Towson's highest-scoring game of the year. Milana Zizakovic led the way with five goals and one assist while Lindsey Marshall finished with four goals for the third time this season.
 
 
Key Stats vs Elon:
  • The Tigers forced a season-high 18 turnovers with ten different players registering one caused turnover.
  • Towson went 5-of-7 (71.4%) on free-position attempts.
  • The Tigers outshot the Phoenix 39-26, including registering double-digit shots in the first and second quarters.
  • Jo Torres registered five saves and Lindsay Posner finished with one save for the Tigers. Elon's Caitlin Walsh finished with eight saves.
  • Cierra Hopson had a career-high seven goals for Elon, tying a program record.
     
How It Happened vs Elon:
  • Blair Pearre opened the scoring with her 25th of the year after she weaved her way through the defense and fired a shot past Walsh.
  • Cierra Hopson got her first to tie the score at one apiece, but Gabby Garrett forced a turnover on the clear attempt, then found Lindsey Marshall on a 3-on-1 opportunity who buried the shot to take the lead back.
  • Less than a minute later, Milana Zizakovic doubled the advantage after she ran past her defender and converted the close-range shot to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Marshall scored her second after she intercepted Walsh's pass, then ran through the defense and scored far post to have a 4-1 edge.
  • Elon scored 40 seconds later to cut the lead in half and trail 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
  • Halley Koras scored in the first minute of the second quarter to restore a three-goal advantage.
  • Marshall completed her hat trick after the Tigers forced another turnover on the clear attempt, then Zizakovic found Marshall wide open who beat Walsh in a one-on-one to have a 6-2 lead.
  • Elon scored a minute later to trail by three, but Lindsay Clarke converted a free-position attempt for her 12th of the season with 10:08 left in the second quarter to keep a four-goal lead.
  • The Phoenix responded a minute later with Hopson's second of the day, then the Tigers scored three consecutive goals that were capped off by Zizakovic's second goal on a free position attempt to have a 10-4 lead.
  • Elon closed out the second quarter with two goals to trail 10-6 heading into halftime.
  • The Tigers made the score 11-6 after Garrett passed the ball from behind the net and Zizakovic fired a quick shot that got through Walsh to earn her sixth hat trick of the year.
  • Hopson scored her fourth of the game to trail by four midway through the third.
  • Towson responded with a 4-0 run highlighted by Katie McCormick scoring her first collegiate goal after Garrett found McCormick wide open in front of the net with McCormick to take their largest lead the day, 15-7.
  • Hopson scored Elon's next two goals to wrap up the third quarter, trailing the Tigers 15-9.
  • Zizakovic scored her fifth goal, tying a season-high, after she scored on a free-position attempt to have a seven-goal advantage.
  • Both teams traded free position goals to maintain a seven-goal advantage for Towson, but the Phoenix closed out the game on a 4-0 run, including two late goals to reach the final score of 17-14.
