BALTIMORE, Md. – Towson softball saw their offense explode for 12 hits in a 15-7 win against county-rival UMBC on Wednesday night. The Tigers use a seven-run third inning to take control of the game early.
Towson (20-17) picked up their 20
th win of the season. This is their first 20-win season since the 2019 season.
Key Stats:
- Cori Jones and Cara Bohner each had four RBIs to lead the Tigers. Jones went a perfect 2-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
- Bohner drove in three of her four runs on a three-run home run in the seventh.
- Mackenzie Lake led the way with three hits. Kristin Toland also had a multi-hit game with two hits.
How It Happened:
- Towson would get the scoring started in the second. Cara Bohner led off with a single and would later score on a Kellie Zoerb single to right to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
- The Retrievers would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run.
- Cori Jones would leadoff with a walk that was followed by a Mackenzie Lake single. Both would come home to score after Bohner reached on an error to make it 3-1. Bohner would then come home on an Addie Ferguson single up the middle to make it 4-1.
- Addie Ferguson would score after Briana Ramirez drew a bases loaded walk and the Tigers would continue their strong inning. Cori Jones would drive in a pair with Lake driving in one to give Towson an 8-1 lead after their half of the third.
- Towson would not stop there. Kristin Toland would score on a wild pitch after reaching on a walk to give the Tigers a 9-1 lead.
- Cori Jones continued her hot hitting day with a three-RBI double that scored Ally Hickman, Kellie Zoerb and Briana Ramirez to make it a 12-1 lead.
- UMBC would continue to cut into the Tiger lead, getting it down to 12-6 after the fifth.
- After the Retrievers got a run in the sixth, Cara Bohner unloaded on a three-run home run in the seventh to regain control 15-7.
- Cheyenne Beayon would shut the door in the seventh to give Towson a 15-7 win, their 20th win of the campaign.

The Tigers will head back home for a three-game CAA series against North Carolina A&T on Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers and Aggies will play two on Saturday starting at noon with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
