Towson Softball Defeats North Carolina A&T, 5-1 After Lengthy Weather Delay

TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball had to fight off a nearly three-hour weather delay to increase their win streak to four in a 5-1 win against the Aggies on Saturday. Towson took an early lead and never looked back in the win.

Starter Maddie Gardner picked up her ninth complete game as well as her ninth win to help Towson (21-17, 10-6 CAA) to extend their winning streak to four games.

Key Stats:
  • Cori Jones led the Tigers with three hits adding two doubles and two RBIs.
  • Mackenzie Lake also had a multi-hit game going 2-3 with an RBI.
  • Gardner went the distance scattering four hits with one earned run and eight strikeouts.
How It Happened:
  • Towson wasted little time in the first. Briana Ramirez led off with a single and would later score on a Mackenzie Lake RBI double to give Towson a 1-0 lead.
  • Maddie Gardner would continue her strong start to the game working out of a bases loaded jam in the third to keep the Tigers in front 1-0.
  • The Tigers would add to their lead in the third. Briana Ramirez and Cori Jones each reached on base hits to work to second and third. Madyson Peters would drive in Ramirez with a sacrifice fly with Jones scoring on a Cara Bohner RBI single to left.
  • After the Aggies scored in their half of the fifth to make it 3-1, Towson would threaten with the bases loaded but a fly out ended the inning.
  • The game would be halted with one out in the top of the sixth due to lightning and severe weather.
  • Following the nearly three-hour restart, the Tigers would add to their lead with a two-RBI double from Cori Jones in the sixth that scored Briana Ramirez and Elizabeth Yoskowitz to give Towson a 5-1 lead.
  • Gardner would retire the side in order in the seventh to give the Tigers their fourth straight win, 5-1.
Inside The Numbers:
  • The Tigers move to 10-6 in league play, their first 10-win league season since 2019.
  • Towson is now undefeated in their last seven home conference games that included three-game sweeps of Charleston and Drexel. The Tigers also run their home record to 13-5 this season.
