Towson Women’s Lacrosse Scores Season-High 21 Goals to Remain Perfect in CAA Play

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team hosted the Monmouth Hawks for Senior Day. Towson (10-3, 5-0 CAA) picked up its sixth consecutive win defeating the Hawks (8-7, 2-3 CAA) 21-14 as the Tigers remain perfect in CAA play. The Black & Gold scored a season-best 21 goals as eight Tigers found the back of the net. The Tigers secured a spot in the CAA Championship Tournament with today's win.
 
Lindsey Marshall tied a career-high five goals while Milana Zizakovic (4g, 1a), Lindsay Clarke (3g, 2a) and Blair Pearre (3g, 2a) all finished with a team-high five points. Halley Koras and Gabby Garrett added three points each in Towson's victory.
 
 
Key Stats vs Monmouth:
  • The Tigers outshot the Hawks 47-27, including a 16-2 advantage in the first quarter.
  • Towson forced 19 turnovers for the second consecutive game.
  • The Tigers scored nine goals in the first quarter, the most in a quarter this season.
  • Monmouth scored seven of its goals on free position attempts.
  • Jo Torres finished with five saves for the Tigers while the Hawk's Kennedy Fruit totaled 14 saves.
How It Happened vs Monmouth:
  • Halley Koras opened the scoring on a nice pass from Milana Zizakovic a couple of minutes into the game.
  • Lindsay Clarke scored her first of the day on a free-position attempt to double the lead.
  • Zizakoivc got on the scoresheet after she made a nice dodge on top of the arc to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead with 9:46 left in the first quarter.
  • Lindsey Marshall made the score line 4-0 after she spun past her defender and fired a shot near post.
  • Towson took a 5-0 lead on Zizakovic's 30th goal of the season after she sprinted past her defender.
  • The Tigers scored less than a minute later after Gabby Garrett found Marshall in front of the crease on a quick restart to give Marshall her second of the quarter.
  • Blair Goodrich scored her first collegiate goal after going coast-to-coast to give the Tigers a 7-0 advantage.
  • Blair Pearre made the score 8-0 on a free position attempt with 4:56 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Monmouth got two goals back, but Marshall completed a first-quarter hat trick to have a 9-2 edge going into the second quarter.
  • The Hawks scored 56 seconds into the quarter, but Pearre got her 28th of the year to maintain a seven-goal edge.
  • Monmouth responded 27 seconds later with Caroline Brennan's 32nd of the season, but Clarke scored on the ensuing possession to have an 11-4 lead.
  • Katie McCormick's second goal of the year came after Clarke's pass split two defenders to find McCormick wide open in front of the crease.
  • The teams traded goals, but the Hawks scored right before halftime on a free position attempt to trail 13-6 going into the locker room.
  • Both teams exchanged early goals to keep a seven-goal lead, then Zizakovic scored consecutive goals to take a 16-7 advantage.  
  • Marshall scored her fourth goal of the day to give Towson its largest lead of the day at 17-7.
  • Monmouth ended the third quarter with two goals to cut the deficit to nine heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Marshall started the final quarter with a free position goal to get her fifth goal of the game, tying a career best.
