Towson Baseball Falls at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University baseball fell 13-0 to Hofstra Sunday afternoon at University Field in Hempstead, New York.
 
Hofstra (15-19, 9-9 CAA) scored first on a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the first inning. The Pride got four across in the fourth on three hits and two errors. A solo shot in the home half of the fifth extended the lead to 8-0. The Pride got two more across in the seventh, with one run scoring on a base hit to right and a second scoring on an error on the play. Hofstra got three more across in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 13-0 lead. Towson (10-26, 2-13 CAA) was unable to score, making it a 13-0 final.
 
Key Stats:
  • Towson left fielder Elijah Dickerson went 1-for-3 with a double on the afternoon. Jeremy Wager picked up a double on a 1-for-2 day at the plate.
  • Towson starter Ethan Pecko picked up the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits in four innings pitched with seven strikeouts on the day. Towson reliever Nate Nabholz allowed one run on three hits in two innings pitched.
  • Hofstra starter Brad Camarda recorded the win, surrendering just four hits in nine innings pitched with six strikeouts and a walk. Hofstra first baseman Ryan Morash batted 3-for-3 on the day with four RBI and three runs scored.
 
How it Happened:
  • In the bottom of the first, a sequence of two singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. A double down the left field line to follow cleared the bases to give the Pride a 3-0 lead.
  • With runners on first and third, a single to second extended the lead for the Pride in the bottom of the fourth. The next batter singled through the right side to extend the lead to 6-0. Later in the inning, a ground ball to short allowed a seventh run to reach home for Hofstra.
  • The Pride tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, a single to right got under the glove of Jeremy Wagner with two runs scoring on the play.
  • With the bases loaded in the eighth, a ground ball to second base scored an 11th run for the Pride. Later in the inning, a hit batter with the bases loaded brought home another, followed by a ground ball to second base to make it 13-0.
