Balanced Attack on the Mound and at the Dish Lift the Tigers over Lehigh

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team took a 10-2 victory over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Tuesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
 
Lehigh (19-23, 6-12 Patriot) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on a single up the middle with a runner on third. Towson (13-28, 3-15 CAA) answered in the home half, scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game. The Mountain Hawks took a one-run advantage back in the third on a single up the middle with runners on the corners. The Tigers took the lead in the fourth, tying the game on another wild pitch before Jordan Peyton's three-run homer gave Towson a 5-2 lead. The Tigers tacked on two more on three hits in the fifth. In the seventh, an Elijah Dickerson sacrifice fly and a single to left scored three more to bring the lead to eight. With no scoring through the final inning and a half, the Tigers won on a 10-2 final score.
 
Key Stats:
  • Third baseman Bryce Frederick finished the day 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two doubles. Jordan Peyton had a 1-for-4 day with a three-run homer.
  • Towson reliever Brett Seils registered the win, surrendering just one hit with two strikeouts in an inning of work. Starter Ethan Pecko allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in three innings pitched while racking up three strikeouts.
  • Lehigh starter Najir Glenn (1-2) recorded the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits in 3.2 innings pitched while registering eight strikeouts.
 
How it Happened:
  • Riley Davis' single up the middle with a runner on third scored the first run of the game for Lehigh in the second inning.
  • The Tigers answered in the bottom frame with a run scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
  • The Mountain Hawks retook the lead in the third on a single up the middle with runners on the corners.
  • Towson took its first lead of the game in the fourth inning. A wild pitched allowed Frederick to reach to tie the game. Later in the inning, Jordan Peyton hit a three-run homer to left to give the Tigers a 5-2 advantage.
  • Towson tacked on two more in the fifth. Jeremy Wagner hit a single through the right side with runners on second and third before Dickerson hit a sacrifice fly to score the second in the inning.
  • The Tigers extended their lead in the seventh. Dickerson hit another sacrifice fly to send in Curnane. The next batter, John Cristino singled to left field to give the Tigers an eight-run lead.
  • With no scoring through the final inning and a half, the final was 10-2 in favor of the Tigers.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Jeremy Wagner extended his on-base streak to 15 games, the fourth longest streak from a Tiger this season.
  • Elijah Dickerson, John Cristino and Jordan Peyton each had multiple RBI in the game, bringing their respective totals to nine, seven and five games. Dickerson's nine such games leads the team and Cristino's seven is second.
  • Cam Clark made his 89th appearance as a Towson Tiger, standing second all-time behind Jake Pecilunas with 106 appearances.

The Tigers head to Charlottesville, Virginia to face the Cavaliers tomorrow, April 26 at Davenport Field at Disharoon Park. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
