BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Towson University baseball team's lead against Northeastern didn't hold, with the Tigers falling 5-4 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play Saturday afternoon at Friedman Diamond in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Towson (13-32, 3-18 CAA) took the lead on a
John Cristino two-run home run in the second inning. Northeastern's (35-7, 16-5 CAA) Tyler MacGregor's lead-off home run in the third inning cut the Tigers' lead in half. A double and ground out with runners on in the top of the fifth each scored one more for Towson to make it a 4-1 game. The Huskies got one back in the sixth on a fielder's choice ground out to third base with the bases loaded, making it a two-run game once again. The Huskies tied the game in the seventh on a two-run home run and took a one-run lead later in the inning on a solo homer to make it a 5-4 game. The Tigers challenged with a runner on in the ninth but were unable to plate a run for a 5-4 final.
Key Stats:
- Catcher John Cristino went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a home run. James Moses went 1-for-4 with an RBI double.
- Towson reliever Jordan Luton (0-2) registered the loss with three earned runs allowed on three hits in 0.2 innings of work. Starter Ethan Pecko went 4.0 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
- Northeastern reliever Nick Davis (2-1) recorded the win with two hitless relief innings plus a strikeout. Griffin Young (8) recorded the save in an inning of work. Left fielder Harrison Feinberg went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run.
How it Happened:
- John Cristino put the Tigers on the scoreboard in the second inning with a two-run home run to left field with Elijah Dickerson first.
- Tyler MacGregor of NU hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead in half.
- With runners on first and second, Moses' double to right center put Towson back up by two in the fifth. Later in the inning with runners on the corners, a ground out to first base plated a fourth run for the Tigers.
- With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, a fielder's choice ground out to third base sent another run home to make it 4-2.
- In the seventh after Alex Lane's single, Harrison Feinberg hit a two-run home run to tie the game up at four apiece. Later in the inning, Gregory Bozzo's solo homer to left field gave NU a one-run advantage.
- The Tigers threatened with a runner on in the ninth but were unable to tie the game for a 5-4 final.
