HEMPSTEAD, N.Y – Towson softball used timely hitting and the second straight complete game for
Maddie Gardner in a 7-5 win against Elon to advance in the winner's bracket. Freshman
Isabella Canesi drilled her first career home run to distance the Tigers in the seventh.
Towson (28-23) will continue in the winner's bracket against either top seed Delaware or No. 2 UNCW tomorrow afternoon. Six different Tigers recorded a hit and capitalized on three Phoenix errors.

How It Happened:
- Towson would get on the board in the second. Addie Ferguson led off the inning with a walk. Cara Bohner would step up and nearly hit it out of the park for a double to plate Ferguson to give Towson the lead.
- Bohner would advance on the throw and score just pitches later on a Kristin Toland sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the second.
- Elon would get runners on base in the third and fourth, but Maddie Gardner would get out of the inning unharmed.
- Towson would get Kristin Toland and Elizabeth Yoskowitz in scoring position in the fourth, but a fly out ended the inning.
- The Phoenix would tie the game in the fifth on a two-RBI single. That would not last long with Towson retaking the lead the very next half inning. Towson would load the bases on a pair of walks and a single from Ally Hickman.
- Sydni Byers would give Towson the lead with a bases loaded walk. Briana Ramirez would add to the lead with a sacrifice fly to plate Toland and give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.
- Elon would get a run back, but once again the Tigers had the response.
- Mackenzie Lake led off reaching on an error after a video review. Madyson Peters followed with a single. Isabella Canesi would add the insurance with her first career home run, this one of the three-run variety, to make it 7-3 Tigers in the seventh.
- The Phoenix would get a pair on a two-run home run, but Gardner goes the distance in a 7-5 win.

Towson will move on to play either No. 1 Delaware or No. 2 UNCW tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday May 11. The Tigers opponent and time will be determined based on the winner of No. 3 Hofstra vs. No. 7 Stony Brook.
