Stout Defense Leads Towson Women’s Lacrosse Past Drexel in the CAA Semifinals

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team welcomed the No. 3 seed Drexel Dragons in the CAA Semifinals on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers defeated the Dragons 9-6 in a defensive battle that saw the Black & Gold advance to their second consecutive CAA Championship.
 
Blair Pearre led all players with four goals and one assist while Lindsey Marshall finished with her ninth hat trick of the season. Blair Goodrich and Olivia Malamphy combined for eight caused turnovers.

  • Towson outshot the Dragons 29-17.
  • The Tigers won the draw control battle 11-8.
  • Towson caused 13 turnovers while Drexel forced only seven turnovers.
  • Jo Torres totaled eight saves for the Black & Gold while Drexel's Jenika Cuocco accumulated ten saves.
How It Happened vs Drexel:
  • The Dragons got off to a fast start scoring two goals within the first five minutes, but two minutes later Blair Pearre found the back of the net after Halley Koras found Pearre cutting to the crease.
  • Towson tied the score at two apiece when Lindsay Clarke picked out Ocea Leavy who fired a shot far post that went between the legs of Cuocco.
  • Pearre opened the second quarter with her second goal after the senior midfielder scooped up a ground ball and ran coast-to-coast making a nice move past a Drexel defender to give Towson a 3-2 edge.
  • Milana Zizakovic scored her 38th of the year after she fired a low shot past Cuocco to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
  • The Dragons ended their 27-minute scoring drought with Maddie Fowler's ninth goal of the year to cut the Tigers' lead down to one with 13:50 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Towson restored a two-goal advantage after Zizakovic found Pearre cutting to the middle who fired a shot in the top corner.
  • Pearre scored her 40th of the season to give Towson a 6-3 edge when Clarke hit Pearre in stride cutting to the crease.
  • Drexel scored with 11 seconds left in the third to trail 6-4 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Towson continued to grow its lead to start the fourth quarter after Lindsey Marshall scored consecutive goals to give the Tigers an 8-4 lead.
  • Corinne Bednarik scored her only goal of the day to trail by three, but Marshall completed her hat trick to take a 9-5 advantage.
  • The Dragons scored with 21 seconds left to reach the final score of 9-6.

  • Blair Goodrich finished with a career-best five caused turnovers and added three ground balls.
  • Lindsey Marshall extended her goal streak to 14 consecutive games.
  • Blair Pearre registered her 33rd collegiate hat trick.
  • The Tigers will make their 11th appearance in the CAA Championship having a 7-3 record all-time.
  • Towson held an opponent scoreless in a quarter for the fourth time this season.
