TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball closed out the regular season in style with
Maddie Gardner recording a no-hitter in a 6-0 win against Coppin State on Friday. The Tigers put up runs in the fourth and sixth innings in the win with
Mackenzie Lake driving in three on a pair of extra-base hits.
Towson (26-23) concludes the regular season with a 17-7 record at home and will finish the season with a winning record for the first time since the 2018 season.
Gardner was electric in the no-hitter, issuing just one walk with eight strikeouts.
Key Stats:
- Gardner gave up the one walk in the fourth as she picks up her 13th win of the season. Her no-hitter was the 11th in program history.
- The no-hitter was the first for the Tigers since 2014 when Missy McCormick no hit Temple that was also a perfect game.
- Mackenzie Lake led the Tigers at the plate with three RBIs on a double and a triple.
- Briana Ramirez had three hits with two runs scored. Cori Jones, Madyson Peters, and Addie Ferguson also had multi-hit games for the Tigers.
How It Happened:
- Towson loaded the bases in the first inning after a pair of singles and an error, however the Tigers could not cash in.
- The Tigers would finally break through in the fourth with a pair of runs. Briana Ramirez laced a two-out triple and would be brought home just pitches later on a Cori Jones RBI single.
- Mackenzie Lake would follow suit with an RBI double to plate Jones and give Towson a 2-0 lead.
- Maddie Gardner would continue her magical outing with a pair of three up, three down innings in the fifth and sixth that included two strikeouts.
- Towson would add to their lead in the sixth. Ramirez would single on a bunt that moved Elizabeth Yoskowitz to second. Both runners would score on a Mackenzie Lake two-RBI triple to make it a 4-0 lead.
- Madyson Peters then laced an RBI double of her own to score Lake. Addie Ferguson would add the final insurance run with an RBI double down the left field line to make it 6-0 Tigers.
- That would be more than enough for Gardner who retired the side in order in the seventh to complete her no-hitter, the first since 2014.

The Tigers will now head to the 2023 CAA Softball Championships at Hofstra this weekend. The Tigers have already clinched a spot in the tournament and will have their seed and opponent determined following the games this weekend.
