HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Towson softball trailed for five innings, but got timely hits when it counted to complete a 3-2 comeback win against North Carolina A&T to open the 2023 CAA Softball Championship.

Towson (27-23) wins their first game in the tournament since the 2016 tournament. The Tigers will now move on to take on No. 4 Elon tomorrow afternoon.

- Maddie Gardner picked up her 14th win of the season, striking out five with a complete game allowing just four hits.
- Ally Hickman drove in a pair of runs with a triple. Cara Bohner and Mackenzie Lake each had a pair of hits for the Tigers.
- Addie Ferguson drove in the game-winning run in the seventh, her lone hit of the game.
How It Happened:
- Towson had the first good chance of the contest. Cara Bohner and Kristin Toland worked to second and third with two outs. However, a ground out would end the inning.
- The Aggies would take a 1-0 lead in the third, capitalizing on a Tiger error.
- After North Carolina A&T added a run in the fifth, Towson threatened in their half. Elizabeth Yoskowitz leadoff with a single and was followed by a Briana Ramirez walk. Both would advance to second and third with one out, but a pair of ground outs ended the inning.
- Towson would tie the game in the sixth. Cara Bohner would reach on a single and Kristin Toland would get on with a walk. Ally Hickman would drive both in with a two-RBI triple to right, tying the game at 2-2.
- Addie Ferguson would provide the heroics in the bottom of the seventh. Mackenzie Lake would reach on a single to center and move to second on a stolen base. Ferguson would step up and drop a single to right field allowing Lake to score to give Towson a 3-2 win to advance.

Towson will now advance to the double elimination portion of the tournament and will face No. 4 Elon tomorrow, May 10 at 12 p.m. The game will air on FloSoftball.
