TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team fell to William & Mary 6-1 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play at Schuerholz Park Saturday afternoon.
William & Mary (30-18, 13-10) posted three runs in the third inning, the first two on a fielding error by the shortstop and the final on a double steal with runners on the corners. The Tribe pushed two more runs across on three hits in the sixth to make it 5-0. Towson (14-34, 3-20) got on the board in the eighth with Cristino's ground out to third knocking home a run. W&M posted a final run in the ninth on a single to left with a runner on third base for a 6-1 final score.
Key Stats:
- Reyce Curnane finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate. Elijah Dickerson batted 3-for-4 with a double.
- Towson starter Ethan Pecko (1-2) registered the loss with three unearned runs allowed on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks in five innings pitched. Brett Seils tossed a hitless inning with one strikeout and two walks.
- William & Mary starter Casey Green (1-0) recorded the win with three scoreless innings pitched while allowing two hits. Cory Wall (2) recorded the save with 4.1 innings pitched, surrendering one run on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
How it Happened:
- The Tribe loaded the bases in the third inning on a single, walk and hit batter. A ground ball to short was booted into the outfield, allowing two runs to score. With runners on the corners, a double steal to follow made it a 3-0 game.
- W&M got two more runs across in the sixth inning. With a runner on third, a single to center extended their lead to four runs. Later in the inning, a single to left field with runners on first and second plated a run to make it 5-0.
- With runners on second and third in the eighth, Cristino's ground out to third base plated a run for the Tigers to make it a 5-1 game.
- The Tribe got their final run of the game in the ninth via a single to left field with a runner on third base for a 6-1 score.
- The Tigers were unable to plate any runs in the home half to extend the game for a 6-1 final.
