TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team fell 3-1 to Appalachian State in the season opener at the TU Field Hockey Complex Friday afternoon.
 
Gianna Antone scored for the Tigers and was assisted by Annie Keele.

How it Happened:

• The Mountaineers opened the scoring with a Charlotte Bosma goal off a corner 2:43 into the game.
• Just under halfway through the second, Rachel Fleig scored for Appalachian State to make it a 2-0 game.
• The Tigers posted nine shots in the second quarter, but were unable to connect, keeping it a 2-0 game at the half.
• To start the third, Annie Keele connected with a streaking Gianna Antone up the field, who put it in the back of the cage to cut the deficit in half.
• The Mountaineers got seven shots up in the third but couldn't connect, keeping it a one score game.
• With just over three minutes left in the game, Appalachian State scored another goal, making it 3-1.
• The Tigers were awarded a penalty corner in the final minute of the game but couldn't connect.
