Hamid Nets Four Goals in 8-1 Win Against UMBC; Towson Starts The Season 4-0 For First Time in Program History

TOWSON, Md. – Towson women's soccer used an eight-goal barrage, including five first-half goals in an 8-1 win against local-rival UMBC on Thursday. The win keeps the Tigers unbeaten to start the season and now move to 4-0-0 to open the season for the first time in program history.

Jasmine Hamid led the Tigers (4-0-0) with four goals including three in the first half to distance themselves from the Retrievers (2-3-0). The eight goals was the most in a single game since the Tigers defeated Howard 8-0 in 2006.

  • Riley Melendez would come up big in the 15th minute with a stop on a shot from point blank range.
  • UMBC would cut the lead in half with a goal, but the Tigers quickly responded just four minutes later thanks to a Demi Pierre goal, her first of the season off an assist from Canoles.
  • The scoring would continue with Hamid scoring twice in a 27 second span to make it 5-1 Tigers at the break.
  • The Towson onslaught would continue in the second half. Jasmine Hamid got her fourth of the contest in the 52nd minute, slotting home a shot in the upper right corner with an assist from Christopher and Alexandra Rush.
  • Reese Borden would get a goal of her own off a corner kick that went right into the goal with Canoles capping the scoring in the 71st minutes off a Julie Lynch assist. The assist for Lynch is her first point as a Tiger.
