TOWSON, Md. – Towson women's soccer needed a second half goal to defeat Charleston 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Nia Christopher provided the game winning goal in the 83
rd minute to lift Towson to a victory.
Towson (5-1-1, 1-0-1 CAA) saw a first half lead fade away after a Charleston (1-5-1, 1-1-0 CAA) goal in the 63
rd minute. However, Christopher provided the heroics, tying the all-time goals record in the process.
Key Stats:
- Christopher and Julie Lynch each scored in the contest. For Lynch, it was her first goal of the season and first as a Tiger.
- Christopher led the Tigers with six shots, as the Tigers outshot Charleston 19-10 on Sunday.
- Riley Melendez made four saves for her fifth win of the season.
How It Happened:
- Towson nearly got out to an early lead in the fifth minute. A scramble in the box led to a near goal, but the ball just stayed out.
- The Tigers would continue to apply pressure, finally resulting in a goal in the 13th minute. Julie Lynch found the ball in the box off a Reese Borden corner kick. Lynch ripped home the shot to give Towson a 1-0 lead.
- Just seconds later, Jasmine Hamid had a good look from the top of the box but her shot just curved wide.
- Charleston had a good look in the 33rd minute, but Riley Melendez made a spectacular diving save to keep Towson in front at halftime 1-0.
- Towson had a pair of chances that resulted with the ball going in the net, but both times the play was called back due to an offsides.
- Charleston would get the equalizer in th 63rd minute. Abby Fisher scored off a corner kick from Mary Alexander to tie it at 1-1.
- The Tigers would continue to battle. Nia Christopher would put the Tigers back in front in the 83rd minute. Christopher played a ball from Demi Pierre and slotted it home in the bottom right corner to give Towson a 2-1 lead.
- That would be all the Tigers needed in a 2-1 win against Charleston on Sunday.

- Nia Christopher scored her 30th career goal, tying Emily Banes for the all-time lead. She is also up to 72 points for her career, just five short of Banes for first all-time.
- Phoebe Canoles moved into fourth all-time in career shots after her four shots on Sunday.
- The Tigers remain unbeaten at home and are now 3-0-1 this season at Tiger Field.
