WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University women's tennis team started the first day of the Tribe Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers picked up two wins in singles and one win in doubles play today. The invitational will continue tomorrow with matches starting at 9 am.
"We played well in spots today and came up with some wins and lost some very close sets/matches where we had legitimate opportunities to win. With some improved execution of game plan/shots on big points the better results will come. Looking to finish strong tomorrow," said head coach

Tribe Doubles
The duo of
Mya Spencer/Lea Kosanovic were victorious over Virginia Tech's Laima Frosch/Samantha Tepes 6-1 and will face Penn's duo of Smith/Tkachenko tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Chandré Boshoff/Ashira Murray battled against the Liberty's duo of Maria Juliana Parra Romero/Maria Turchetto
, but fell 6-4. Boshoff/Murray will play East Carolina's duo of Rivera/Lou Champion.
Griffin Doubles

Erin Gray went against Saige Roshkoff/Sasha Motlagh (Penn) and dropped the match 6-2. Gray/Rothfeld will take on Richmond's Bakhaya/Oliveira tomorrow.
Singles
White Singles
Mya Spencer took on Liberty's Maria Turchetto and dropped her match 6-2, 6-2. Spencer followed up with a straight-set victory over Virginia Tech's Taylor Rieckert 6-4, 6-0. She will take on East Carolina's Isabella Ortiz in the next round.
Olivia Rothfeld had a bye in the first round but fell 6-1, 6-4 to William & Mary's Yaelle Vaissud in the second round.
Grey Singles
Ashira Murray battled Liberty's Sadie Daavettila in the first round and dropped the match 6-3, 6-4 in a close contest. Murray played against Richmond's Lara Bakhaya and dropped the match 6-0, 6-3.
Chandré Boshoff went against William & Mary's Parker Debnam, but fell 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. Boshoff battled in the second match against Liberty's Elsa Kirch, but dropped the match 6-4, 6-4.
Silver Singles
Sania Suchinsky took on Penn's Sasha Motlagh and was defeated 6-1, 6-4. Suchinsky played her second match against East Carolina's Noelle Talarek and fell 6-4, 6-3 in a close match.
Lea Kosanovic was paired against Penn's Eileen Wang and dropped the match 6-2, 6-1. Kosanovic faced East Carolina's Anne Lou Champion in the next round, but fell in a tightly contested match 7-5, 7-6(3).
Yellow Singles (Round Robin)
Erin Gray went against William & Mary's Julia Monroe in her singles match and was victorious in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(4). Gray wrapped up the day with a match against Liberty's Bruna Sampaio and fell 6-4, 6-0. She will take on Virginia Tech's Samantha Tepes tomorrow.
