HAMPTON, Va. – The Towson University volleyball team started Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday afternoon against the Hampton Lady Pirates. The Tigers (8-3, 1-0 CAA) swept the Lady Pirates (0-3, 0-1 CAA) 25-13, 25-19, 25-11 at Holland Hall.   
 
Nina Cajic had nine kills on .444 hitting percentage while adding eight digs and three service aces. Aayinde Smith and Victoria Barrett each had eight kills and two total blocks each with Barrett adding ten digs.
 
Key Stats vs Hampton:

• Towson held the Lady Pirates to -.032 hitting percentage, the lowest the Tigers have held an opponent this season.
• The Tigers racked up eight aces today for the third time this season.
• Towson had six players finish with a hitting percentage higher than .400.
• The Tigers won the dig battle 47-26.

 
How It Happened vs Hampton:

• Hampton opened the first set with the match's first two points, then kills by Erin Brothers and Victoria Barrett evened up the score at two apiece.
• The teams traded kills before the Tigers went on an 8-1 run led by aces from Nina Cajic and Aayinde Smith to take a 12-6 lead.
• The Lady Pirates cut the deficit down to four after consecutive points, but Towson responded with a 6-0 run to have a nine-point advantage.
• Hampton got a kill and an ace to cut into Towson's lead, but the Tigers finished the set on an 8-3 run capped off by back-to-back kills from Barrett to take the second 25-13.
• The teams started the second set going back and forth with the Tigers taking a 6-4 lead after three consecutive points.
• The Lady Pirates tied the score soon after as the teams continued to go back and forth, tying the score five times.
• Towson went on a 6-1 run getting back-to-back kills from Smith to have a 17-12 lead.
• Hampton cut the lead down to three, but Towson scored the next four points to have a 22-15 advantage with three kills coming from three different Tigers.
• The teams traded small runs to close out the second set 25-19 in favor of the Tigers.
• Towson jumped out to a 5-1 lead to start the third set capped off by a Barrett ace.
• The Tigers grew its lead to 12-4 after a 7-2 run, getting kills from Cajic, Brothers and Smith.
• Hampton scored three of the following four points to cut into the deficit, then the Tigers went on a 9-2 run that included seven consecutive points to take a commanding 22-9 lead.
• The Lady Pirates got back-to-back blocks, but Towson finished the third set with a 3-0 run capped off by a Jasmine Purakal ace to win the set 25-11.

 
Inside the Numbers vs Hampton:

• Erin Brothers had seven kills for the second straight match with a season-best .875 hitting percentage.
• Sarah Jordan totaled 24 assists and a team-best 11 digs to earn her fourth double-double of the season.
• Towson remains undefeated against Hampton with a 4-0 record.
• The Tigers picked up their sixth sweep of the season.
