TOWSON, Md. – Towson women's soccer battled Delaware to a 0-0 draw on Thursday night at Tiger Field. The Tigers outshot the Blue Hens 15-4 with four shots on goal.
Towson (4-1-1, 0-0-1 CAA) had nine of their 15 shots in the first half, holding Delaware (3-2-2, 0-0-1 CAA) to just two shots in each half.
Jasmine Hamid led the Tigers with seven shots and two shots on goal.
Key Stats:
- Hamid had seven of the 15 shots for the Tigers with Demi Pierre adding three and Nia Christopher with two.
- The Tigers had eight corner kicks with Delaware earning just one.
- Riley Melendez did not face a shot on goal in the contest, recording her third shutout of the season and 22nd shutout of her career.
How It Happened:
- The Tigers had to battle through an hour and a half delay due to lightning strikes in the area.
- Towson controlled most of play during the first half. Demi Pierre had the first good look for the Tigers in the 15th minute but her shot was blocked.
- Jasmine Hamid had a pair of good looks but she was just off the mark each time as the game remained scoreless into the 30th minute.
- Late in the half, Hamid once again had a look on goal. Following Nia Christopher chasing a ball down, she played a ball across the box to Hamid, but her shot was saved as we headed to the half tied 0-0.
- Towson continued to apply the pressure in the second half, outshooting Delaware 6-2 in the second half.
- The Tigers best chance in the half came in the 84th minute. Nia Christopher found herself alone on net, but her attempt to chip the goalkeeper was off target.
- Towson would have good build up late, but the Tigers and Blue Hens ended in a 0-0 draw on Thursday.
Inside The Numbers:
- Riley Melendez recorded her 22nd career shutout. That moves her to within six of tying the all-time mark set by Tina Steck at 28.
- This is the second straight draw between Towson and Delaware in the series. Last season the two battled to a 1-1 draw in Newark.
