Field Hockey Drops High-Scoring Game to Bucknell

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team fell 7-4 vs. Bucknell Friday afternoon at Graham Field in Lewisburg, Pa.
 
Hannah McKeon, Annie Keele, Megan Popp and Gianna Antone all scored for the Tigers. McKeon and Samantha Aljets each picked up an assist in the contest.

How it Happened:
  • On the second of two penalty corners in the opening five minutes of play, Kira Leclercq found Hannah Guarente for the score to give the Bison an early 1-0 lead.
  • A loose ball came through the goalie crease of the attacking circle, allowing Zoe Carlson-Pietraszek to find the cage for another Bucknell goal 10 minutes into the first period.
  • The Bison were awarded a penalty corner late in the period. After Tessa Scheenstra's initial save, a chip went over the goalkeeper, allowing Carlson-Pietraszek to score off the rebound.
  • Towson got on the board with just over a minute remining in the opening quarter. Lexi Bove inserted the ball on the penalty corner, sending it to Georgia Beachley. Beachley passed back to Hannah McKeon who fired into the crease, connecting with Antone's stick for the chip-in goal.
  • Lily Nielson's reverse stick shot from the top of the circle snuck past Scheenstra three minutes into the second period for the 4-1 advantage.
  • Nielson scored another in the third off a penalty corner, receiving the ball at the top of the crease and found a gap in the defense to send it home.
  • Megan Popp scored the second goal for the Tigers on a loose ball in the attacking circle, the first of her career.
  • Halfway through the third, the Tigers were awarded another penalty corner. Lexi Bove inserted to Lydia Bennett, who received. Samantha Aljets grabbed it and passed back to Hannah McKeon who found the goal, making it a 5-3 game.
  • Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Rachel Apa scored on the redirect in the circle to make it a 6-4 game in favor of the Bison.
  • After the initial save on the corner, Hannah Guarente scored another for a 7-4 Bison advantage.
  • The Bison received a penalty stroke halfway through the fourth that was saved by Scheenstra.
  • With no more scoring to the end of the quarter, Bucknell won 7-4.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Midfielder Popp scored the first goal of her career in the third quarter.
  • Antone and Keele each picked up their third goals of the season. Keele has scored at least one point in all five games this season after not registering any points in her previous three seasons. She has scored in three-straight contests.
  • Hannah McKeon picked up a goal and assist in the contest, each her first of the season.
