Four Hit Double Figures in 73-64 Overtime Win Against Stony Brook

TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball led for over 35 minutes and needed overtime in a 73-64 win against Stony Brook on Thursday night. Four Tigers scored in double figures led by Tyler Tejada with 16 points.

Towson (9-7, 2-1 CAA) ended the overtime session on a 9-0 run to pull away from the Seawolves (8-8, 1-2 CAA). Tejada hit a three to give the Tigers the lead for good to start the spurt. The win breaks the streak for longest home winning streak which now stands at 15 dating back to last season.

Key Stats:
  • Tejada led the Tigers with 16 points going 3-5 from three. Dylan Williamson added 14 points with three rebounds.
  • Nendah Tarke and Charles Thompson also hit double figures with 13 and 12 respectively. Thompson added eight rebounds and a team-high four assists.
  • The Tigers shot 45 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three.
How It Happened:
  • Towson got out to a fast start with Charles Thompson hitting a pair of buckets early.
  • Stony Brook would respond with a 7-0 run to take five-point lead before Mekhi Lowery ended the run with a free throw.
  • The Tigers would start to catch fire, ripping off a 14-3 run over a 4:44 span. The Tigers hit three triples on the spurt to take five-point lead at the under eight timeout.
  • Stony Brook would cut into the lead, but a Charles Thompson dunk off a Dylan Williamson pass gave the Tigers a 33-28 lead at halftime.
  • Williamson led the Tigers with 12 points at halftime going 4-6 from the floor and 3-5 from three. Charles Thompson and Tyler Tejada added six points each with Thompson dishing out three assists.
  • Both teams came out of the locker room struggling to shoot with the Tigers holding a slim advantage for the early part of the second half.
  • The Seawolves would cut the Tiger lead to just one before a big and one from Charles Thompson pushed the lead back to four.
  • Stony Brook would continue to battle back, tying the game with just under 30 seconds to go. Towson would have a shot late, but Dylan Williamson's shot was off the mark as the two went to overtime.
  • Both teams exchanged baskets over the first couple possessions of the extra session. Tyler Tejada would give the Tigers a lead with a three that sparked a 6-0 run to take a six-point lead with one minute left in overtime.
  • That would extend to a 9-0 run to close out the game, defeating Stony Brook 73-64 on Thursday.
Inside The Numbers:
  • Towson remains perfect at home this season and are now 7-0 at TU Arena. The Tigers are 17-2 in the last two seasons at home.
  • Head coach Pat Skerry tied Terry Truax for second place on the all-time wins list with 202.
