Towson Wins for the 100th Time at TU Arena in 77-43 win against Campbell

TOWSON, Md. – Freshmen Tyler Tejada and Mekhi Lowery led the Tigers in a 77-43 rout of Campbell on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 2,108. Tejada was one of three Tigers in double figures. The win also gives the Tigers 100 wins inside TU Arena.

Towson (11-8, 4-2 CAA) used an 18-2 run midway through the second half to distance themselves from Campbell (9-10, 3-3 CAA). The run lasted over seven minutes that saw the Tigers push out to a 28 point lead.

Key Stats:
  • Tejada shot 6-12 from the floor and 3-5 from three with six rebounds.
  • Nendah Tarke and Christian May also hit double figures with 12 and 11 respectively.
  • Freshman Mekhi Lowery had a team-high seven rebounds, and four blocks with his blocks being a career-high.
  • The Tigers held the Camels to just 28 percent from the floor in the second half as Towson shot 43 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three. The Tigers outrebounded the Camels 47-32 with 18 offensive rebounds.
How It Happened:
  • Towson got out to another fast start, taking a 10-6 lead at the under 16 timeout thanks to a pair of triples from Christian May and Messiah Jones.
  • Both teams would struggle from the floor over the next four minutes. Campbell would score four straight to cut the Tiger lead to two, forcing a Towson timeout.
  • Towson would respond with a Tomiwa Sulaiman layup and Nendah Tarke three to push the lead back to six at the under eight timeout.
  • The Tigers would continue to ratchet up the defense holding the Camels scoreless over three minutes to push their advantage to 11 points. However, Campbell would hit a three just before halftime to make it 33-23 Tigers at the break.
  • Tyler Tejada led the way with 10 points and five rebounds in the first 20 minutes. The Tigers shot 50 percent from three and outrebounded the Camels by five.
  • Towson came out of the gates strong in the second half outscoring the Camels 11-6 over the first four minutes, grabbing four offensive rebounds.
  • The offense for the Tigers would explode from there going on a 18-2 run over seven minutes to pull away from the Camels.
  • It would be all Towson from there as the Tigers would roll to a 77-43 win on Saturday.
Inside The Numbers:
  • The Tigers assisted on 19 of 28 made baskets, the second most in a game this season.
  • Towson won for the 100th time at TU Arena in the 10-year existence of the building. The Tigers are 100-41 all-time and are a perfect 8-0 this season.
