TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball extended their win streak to three and their TU Arena win streak to 17 games with a 70-67 win against Drexel on Thursday.
Nendah Tarke and
Christian May each had big games in the win with May pouring in a 15-point, 10-rebound double double.
Towson (12-8, 5-2 CAA) had three in double figures led by Tarke with 18 points. The win moved the TU Arena win streak to 17 games.
Key Stats:
- Tarke paced the Tigers with 18 points going 7-14 from the floor with five rebounds and three assists. May chipped in a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Charles Thompson also hit double figures with 12 points. Mekhi Lowery dished out a team-best five assists.
- Towson shot 45 percent from the floor including 52 percent in the second half, holding the Dragons to just 39 percent.
How It Happened:
- Both teams traded punches early with the Tigers holding a two-point lead at the under 16 timeout.
- Towson would hold the Dragons scoreless over a three-minutes stretch to pull ahead by five after Christian May drilled a three in transition.
- The Tiger defense continued to stand strong as the lead pushed to seven after Dylan Williamson finished a tough drive just before the media timeout.
- That lead would go to 11 after a Nendah Tarke three and Charles Thompson layup forced a Drexel timeout.
- Drexel would rip off a 7-0 run to cut the Tiger lead to two. Towson would take a four-point lead into the locker room thank a Mekhi Lowery thunderous dunk, 32-28.
- Towson shot 40 percent from the floor in the opening half with Christian May scoring eight points with four assists. 18 of the teams 32 points came in the paint.
- The Tiger defense stood tall early in the half forcing a Dragon timeout after the lead ballooned to 14 thanks in part to three pointers from Christian May and Nendah Tarke.
- Drexel would rip off an 8-0 run that got the Tiger lead down to four before Nendah Tarke hit a big and one to quell the run.
- The Dragons would continue to cut into the deficit getting it down to two with less than 30 seconds. However, the Tigers would come up with a big stop late to win their third straight and 17th straight in TU Arena with a 70-67 win against the Dragons.
Inside The Numbers:
- Charles Thompson moved into a tie for fourth place in career starts, tying Mike Morsell with 103. Thompson also moved into 18th place on the scoring list, passing Jerrelle Benimon.
- Thompson also moved into fourth place on the minutes played list and now sits at 3,483 minutes played.
- The Tigers had their highest attendance of the season with 2,804 at TU Arena. The previous best was against Arcadia at 2,624.
