Men’s Swimming & Diving Hosting #25 Navy at Burdick Pool

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's swimming & diving team hosts #25 Navy at Burdick Pool Saturday, Jan. 6 in the team's first dual meet of 2024. Diving is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. with swimming to follow at noon. Admission for all Towson home meets at Burdick Pool is free.
 
The Towson and Navy men's squads have met in each of the last eight seasons in dual meet format. This marks the first time the two teams will face off at Burdick Pool.
 
The Midshipmen entered the Collegiate Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I poll at #25 on Dec. 14, 2023, with seven total points.
 
SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN
The Midshipmen enter Saturday's dual meet at 6-1 with wins over Army, Lafayette, Bucknell, American, George Washington. The Midshipmen took their only loss in the first meet of the season at Penn State on Oct. 7.
 
TALKING TIGERS
The Towson men currently hold six league-best times in the conference across individual events. The Tigers hold CAA-best times in the 50 (Benzing, 19.90) and 100 free (Benzing 44.05), the 100 (Benzing, 51.48) and 200 breast (Benzing, 1:54.64), the 100 fly (Benzing, 46.21) and the 200 IM (Benzing, 1:43.66). Towson also holds CAA high water marks in the 200 (1:18.90) and 400 free (2:56.49) relays, and the 200 (1:26.46) and 400 medley (3:12.23) relays.
 
Seven newcomers join the team to accompany 16 returners from last season following a third-place finish at the CAA Championships last February. The two swimmers accounting for Towson's four gold medal finishes at the 2022-23 conference championship meet have returned for the Black & Gold. Brian Benzing took gold in the 100 fly, 100 breast and 200 IM while breaking the all-time conference record in the 100 breast and 200 IM. He is a three-time defending CAA Swimmer of the Year, two-time CAA Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet and two-time Honorable Mention All-America. Michael Fazio is the two-time defending 50 free champion in the CAA and won the 100 free in 2021.
